6 Types of Energy Healing Therapies

Types of energy healing therapies explained

What is energy healing? What are the types of energy healing therapies? Find out these answers and more in Ruchira’s guest post today.

Energy Healing: What Does That Mean, Exactly?

We derive the word “medicine” from the Latin expression are medicina, which means “the art of healing.” It is a science of diagnosis, healing, and prevention of diseases in human beings. In today’s world, we move at a pace that is racing to keep up with the speed of our thoughts. These thoughts drive the human body, and energy medicine recognizes the power of both our ideas and this world, thus revolutionizing healing via energy.

This method of healing is a branch of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). It is one of the mind-body practices that include a diverse group of techniques taught by trained practitioners.

The Purpose of Energy Healing Therapies

These procedures deal with health problems that:

  • Conventional medicine can’t seem to the fix
  • Bring renewed stamina to a tired body
  • Offer fresh vitality to a weary mind

The different types of energy healing therapies counteract a sagging attitude by helping to eliminate stress and reduce anxiety, which helps in removing the toxins that could eventually turn into different diseases. Each cell in the human body emits and responds to the electrochemical signals and helps us breathe while regulating our body functions to keep us safe from any foreign microbe.

But the mind is ultra-sensitive and registers everything that is happening to us, big and small. The energy body logs every incident and the feeling within our bodies. These unexpressed and unconscious emotions cause energy.

Types of Energy Healing Therapies

Energy healing includes a variety of therapies. Six types of energy healing therapies are:

  1. Acupuncture
  2. Acupressure
  3. Chakra Tuning
  4. Reiki
  5. Qi gong
  6. Whole Medical System

The above techniques are all about energy balance and flow of energy within a body. They can manifest as heat, tingling, or even cooling sensations. Here’s more detail about each one.

1. Acupuncture

A century-old form of Chinese medicine, acupuncture involves the painless insertion of needles along points of the body called meridians or energy channels. The generation of small electric pulses happen when the acupuncture needles attach to a device. This process helps in the release of energy blockages, thus relieving pain.

2. Acupressure

Then there is acupressure, which is a part of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It works by stimulating the meridian system by using pressure, which helps to bring relief by balancing energy and releasing any blockages.

3. Chakra Tuning

Indian healers believe that the human body has seven energy centers called chakras. These chakras receive, absorb and express our energy, acting as a bridge between body and mind. Either Chakra chanting can restore energy or using tuning forks.

4. Reiki

Next on the list is reiki. This is an ancient Japanese form of spiritual healing wherein the healer’s hands transfer the universal energy to the patient to help restore good health. Therefore, it helps to open all the blockages that prevent him from good health.

5. More Energy Healing Therapies: Qi Gong

This is an ancient Chinese practice with its roots in:

  • Medicine
  • Martial arts
  • Philosophy

In Qui Gong, rhythmic breathing combines with a calm, mindful state, together helping to guide energy through the body. Moreover, Qi Gong is an alternative medicine as it has been proven to help develop human potential by balancing the flow of vital energy. Doing so helps to improve immune function and promote relaxation in the body.

6. Whole Medical System

They build entire medical systems (WMS) upon theory and practice. Western cultures include: omeopathic medicine and naturopathic medicine. Non-Western cultures, on the other hand, include Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and ayurvedic medicine.

Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine History

TCM is approximately 5,000 years old, and is based on the concept that disease results from a disruption in the flow of energy, which is maintained by keeping a balance in the two forces known as yin and yang.

Furthermore, Traditional Chinese Medicine uses the theory of five elements to explain how the body works. These elements are:

  • Fire
  • Earth
  • Metal
  • Water
  • Wood

TCM uses herbs, massage, and moxibustion to treat people suffering from different diseases.

As for Ayurveda, it originated in India and evolved over thousands of years. It means “the science of life.” The goal of this form of medicine is to prevent disease and promote welfare by balancing body, mind, and spirit.

Moreover, Ayurveda has its basis in the theory that each person’s body relies on five doshas. In turn, an imbalance in any of these doshas could cause illness. Ayurvedic medicine helps remove impurities, lower worry, and increase harmony in a person’s life by increasing resistance to disease through therapies. These therapies include:

  • Diet
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Herbs
  • Massage
  • Controlled breathing

Western Medicine History

Firstly, let’s discuss homeopathy, which started in the 19th century in Europe. Since then its goal has been to help the body heal by using natural substances from plants, minerals, and animals. This practitioner helps treat physical symptoms, emotional, psychological state, body type, and genetic and personal health history.

As for naturopathic medicine, it also began in Europe and includes ancient and modern therapies from other traditions. Its goal is to help the body heal by supporting good health rather than fighting disease. These practitioners use natural and non-invasive treatments by focusing on changes in:

  • Diet
  • Lifestyle
  • Prevention
  • Herbs
  • Massage

Conclusions about Types of Energy Healing Therapies

Finally, therapists practicing Energy Medicine have claimed that they have succeeded where medical science failed. For science, there are no boundaries. And alternative medicine has proven that living beings have a unique property that gives them a special quality of life.

Belief in the existence of a living force is ancient. Furthermore, we provide many names to this existence. They call it Prana in Hinduism, Chi by the Chinese, and Ki by the Japanese. This energy is said to make up the source of life that is associated with soul and intelligence.

  1. All of these healing modalities are important and helpful when used correctly (and when the patient believes in them, I think). I’ve tried almost all of them ….and I’m a believer. The most fun Reiki I experienced was at my dentist’s – his wife was newly certified in Reiki and did the “laying on of hands” while his clients heard the dentist’s drill begin. It helped!

    1. I agree with you, Roughwighting. One has to be a believer in it to try it out. I am happy to know that your found relief from the dentist’s drill courtesy his wife’s healing energy.

  2. I work at a non-profit that offers free cancer wellness programs including these therapies. In our centre, they are meant to complement traditional medical therapy (which treats the cancer) and address the person’s emotional, spiritual and physical well-being. The people who come are so grateful to be able to explore and learn about therapies that help them live their best life during their cancer journey.

    1. I get you, Inkplume.
Stanford HealthCare also offers free cancer wellness programs, and its gratifying to be of service to the patients who are going through a turmoil physically and emotionally.

  3. Wow good one Christy . I had heard about reiki and acupuncture, but not the others. Interesting to know and there’s more and more interest in these alternate energy healing these days with awareness being spread. Thanks for the wonderful share!

  4. Thank you, Christy, for sharing the post on alternative energy healing. Western medicine treats the symptoms but these other energy techniques help balance the soul. Massage is a routine in my life that helps me to relax and keep my muscles from cramping up. I’ve also experienced Shaman healing in which the energy in my shoulder that was blocking my creative energy was released. Thus, I am now open to these other techniques as part of my routine. Have a lovely week, my friend.

I have tried all but the Chakra tuning. I do a maintenance with Acupressure and Acupuncture. It makes me feel calmer than I think I used to be. It’s nice to read about the alternatives available to us.
