A healthy diet is so important and there are certain foods to add to you’re diet if you want to maintain a healthy weight and avoid many health problems. Yogurt is one of those foods, but many people don’t realize how beneficial it is. The amazing yogurt health benefits make it a terrific alternative to your favorite snacks or a great way to add variety to your breakfast routine. Here are 4 great reasons to start eating yogurt every day.
4 benefits of eating yogurt every day:
1. It balances your gut bacteria
If you find that you have a lot of digestive issues, you may have an imbalance of bacteria in your gut. Although many people associate bacteria with illness, there is actually a lot of good bacteria in your gut that is vital to maintaining good health.
An increase in bad bacteria in the gut can lead to digestive issues, and it has even been shown to increase your chances of developing mental health issues. If you have a lot of stomach pain or digestive issues, see a stomach doctor to rule out any serious conditions.
You may find that adding yogurt to your diet makes a big difference because it is a probiotic. Probiotic foods contain a lot of the good bacteria that your gut needs so it can address the imbalance and reduce your digestive issues.
2. Eating yogurt every day because it’s high in protein
Eating enough protein is important, especially if you exercise a lot. Unfortunately, a lot of sources of protein, like red meat, are not particularly healthy for you. However, yogurt is great because it’s high in protein and low in fat, so it’s a much better alternative.
Yogurt makes a great high-protein breakfast because the protein will stave off feelings of hunger for longer. If you eat a lot of carbs and not much protein, then you will gain weight much faster and not stay full for very long, which is why yogurt is the perfect way to start your day instead.
3. It helps to manage blood sugar
Foods that increase your blood sugar levels increase your risk of developing diabetes. But eating yogurt every day can help you to manage your blood sugar levels and reduce the chance of type 2 diabetes.
This food has a very minimal effect on your blood sugar and the lactic acid in the yogurt can even help to reduce your blood sugar. The protein and fats present in yogurt can also potentially improve your blood sugar levels.
However, you will only see these beneficial effects when you eat fresh, plain yogurt. There are a lot of sweetened fruit yogurts out there that are full of sugar and will increase blood sugar levels, so always read the labels on any yogurt that you buy.
4. It encourages Vitamin B production
Most vitamins come from food sources, but vitamins B and K are produced by a chemical reaction in our gut. Eating yogurt every day encourages vitamin B production, which is a big benefit because it has a lot of important roles in our bodies.
It can improve eyesight, brain function, cell health, red blood cell production, and much more. Many people have a vitamin B deficiency but you can avoid this by eating yogurt on a daily basis.
If you only make one change to your diet, then consider eating yogurt every day because it has so many health benefits!
The way it helps helpful bacteria in your gut is the good enough reason you should eat yogurt every day!
Truth!
I like adding mixed fruits to yogurt and eat. A pinch of black pepper makes it the best meal of the day!
Ohhh I wouldn’t have thought to add black pepper to yogurt! Thanks for the tip :)
I add paste of mint leaves in yogurt. It becomes so refreshing!
That’s great ~ I bet it’s yummy.
We start off almost every day with combining fresh berries and Greek yogurt. We are big believers in the heath benefits.
Oh yum!!
Any recommendations on a dairy free option with similar health benefits?
A tasty one is So Delicious Unsweetened Vanilla Dairy-Free Coconut Milk Yogurt :)
Mmm I love yoghurt! I do actually tend to eat at least one a day, but it’s a Muller Light toffee/vanilla which I’m not sure has the same health benefits as one of the natural Greek yoghurts! That said, I imagine they all have some benefits and I knew of all of them here except it triggering vit B production, that’s amazing! I’m quite pleased I get through so many yoghurts now 😄 xx
Awesome! It’s such a great food, and so many yummy flavors :)
Right on time! I’m making a yogurt pound cake today
Ohhh my mouth is watering!
Another reason to eat low fat yoghurt is that it is supposed to help steer the body towards weight loss… not that I’ve noticed this a lot :-/
I’m not overly concerned with weight but that’s good to know, Andrea.
Great tips. We take it everyday.
Wonderful.
I have been meaning to have more yoghurt!
Bring it on!
Great tips Christy, I didn’t know about vitamin B. That’s added good news! Thankyou… much love to you x
Sending love, Barbara. I hope you are staying safe and well xx
I was expecting three but four is even better!
