What you wear can be a powerful way to express your style, and it can also be a way to express what you believe in. With that in mind, I wanted to showcase a new jewelry collection I recently heard about from the Strong & Precious Art Foundation. I love how the latest designs symbolize empowerment and resilience. Their latest campaign, called “Shining Women,” celebrates the artistry of Ukrainian jewelry and also pays homage to the powerful spirit of Ukrainian women.
Honoring Resilience Through Art
Art collector and jewelry expert Olga Oleksenko founded the Strong & Precious Art Foundation in 2022 to promote Ukraine’s jewelry heritage and the amazing works of its designers. The foundation is not only jewelry for Ukrainians; it offers pieces that speak to the enduring strength and beauty that emanates from within. The “Shining Women” campaign is a testament to that.
“Jewelry is more than mere adornment for Ukrainians; it’s a language of resilience and a beacon of hope,” said Oleksenko in a recent press release. “Through the ‘Shining Women’ campaign, we aim to illuminate the stories of courage and inner light that define Ukrainian women, especially during times of adversity.”
Being able to find beauty in the horrific experiences in Ukraine is amazing, in my opinion. I am so glad to have found out about this foundation.
Transformative Artistry and Symbolism
The collection of “Shining Women” pieces are inspired by the unwavering resilience that we’ve seen in Ukrainian women, especially in recent years. There’s the darkness of conflict, the shining strength of these women. Being able to capture their resilience in an artistic way like this reminds me of the power of all mediums of art. Artistic expression is an amazing vehicle for sharing messages, beyond words. Each piece tells a story of triumph over tribulation.
At the heart of the campaign are pieces like the “Blackout” earrings, shown below. They bring to mind Kyiv’s plunge into darkness, constrasted with the brilliance of black onyx and diamonds. The earrings by Strong & Precious are inspired by black and white photos of Kiev during the blackouts. Olga Oleksenko ideated this particular piece.

Symbolizing unity and heritage, the “Shining Women” collection features intricately designed necklaces, including the “Freedom” necklace shown in the top image. It represents the balance between light and darkness. The necklace’s pearls are arranged in binary code to spell out the word ‘freedom.’
The collection also includes the “Links” brooch symbolizing unity between Ukraine’s east and west, the “Kolossinia” necklace by Yuval’ Studios that symbolizes the stunning Carpathian Mountains, and more. Each piece pays homage to Ukraine culture and the inner light and strength of this country’s women.
More than Jewelry: The ‘Shining Women’ Collection is a Call to Action
As you can already tell, the campaign is more than just showcasing exquisite Ukrainian craftsmanship, although it certainly does that! It is a call to action. Through a series of events, exhibitions, and initiatives, the Strong & Precious Art Foundation aims to spotlight Ukrainian women and their contributions to art, culture, and society.
“In honoring the resilience of Ukrainian women, we also extend our support to Ukraine in its time of need,” said Oleksenko. “Together, through the transformative power of collective action, we can illuminate a path towards peace and prosperity.”
Embracing Hope through Art
As the world struggles with uncertainty, initiatives like the “Shining Women” campaign remind us of the resilience and beauty that exist amidst adversity. Through art and storytelling, Strong & Precious Art Foundation encourages us to embrace our inner light and stand in solidarity with those who shine brightest in the darkest of times.
