These old-fashioned romantic ideas still hit the mark

old-fashioned romantic ideas

The new age has brought some new ideas of romance with it. Some things that were considered romantic before are now clichés, and new traditions are born to help you show love for your special someone. Still, this doesn’t mean that old-fashioned romantic ideas aren’t sweet and special anymore.

In this guest post, Stella offers retro ideas that still provide the message of love that you want to convey, and she adds modern suggestions to many of them. Putting in the effort for a loved one is truly a sign you care and is likely what your partner appreciates most about the act.

6 old-fashioned romantic ideas to try:

1. Light some candles

There’s nothing more romantic than candles. Electricity is all fine and nice but it’s so commonplace that it doesn’t really create any kind of ambience, no matter how much you dim the lights.

If you want to have a truly romantic evening with no distractions, turn your phones off and light a few candles. Talk, laugh, drink a little, and you’ll find yourselves falling in love all over again.

Candles have a way of opening up even the shyest soul to romance.

2. Go dancing

Modern dancing at the club or the bar is intimate in a whole different way than classic dances used to be. It doesn’t make them any better or worse, but perhaps it’s time to channel your sexual energy through different dance moves and invite romance into it, too.

You can surprise your love by signing them up for some steamy ballroom dance lessons. There’s no better way to get to know each other, from how the other person moves to how they breathe and thinks, than to lead them onto the dance floor.

3. Write them a love letter

No, just because everything is digitalized today doesn’t mean that handwritten letters are out of style. In fact, since rarely anyone sends letters today, they’re much more valuable than ever, making them one of the top old-fashioned romantic ideas on this list.

Show your special someone you care by writing them a letter conveying your deepest feelings for them. Don’t tell them anything about it. Instead, mail the letter to their address and watch the surprise and joy on their faces when they receive it. If you live together, you can simply put the letter in the mailbox.

This way, they will always be able to cherish the letter you wrote for them. If you want to make it even more personal, you can always spray the letter with your perfume or cologne.

4. Another old-fashioned romantic idea? Sing

Singing has always been a grand romantic gesture performed only by the bravest. If you want to show your significant other that you care in a special way, don’t be afraid to serenade them.

It doesn’t matter how good you are at it because it’s the thought that counts. You can serenade them over the phone if you’re long-distance dating and you miss them, for example.

Or, if you can go all out and go under their window at night. If you’re too embarrassed to sing in front of their window as people might walk by, another option is to blast your song on a stereo.

This gesture is one to win them as they’ll remember all the great times you had listening to the exact song you’re playing them.

5. Get her flowers, just because

If you don’t know how to show your sweetie you’ve been thinking about them all day, get flowers delivered to their home while you’re at work. Or, you could get them delivered to the office if your partner is having a rough day.

No matter what year and century it is, nothing can beat the charm and beauty of fresh flowers. They’ve been symbols of love and romance for as long as there were people, and that’s not going to stop now simply because the new age began.

A floral bouquet is a terrific gift for any occasion or, better yet, for no occasion. It’s going to mean much more to her that you got her flowers just because you want to be romantic and not because it was a special event.

The gesture shows that you love and care for your other half every day of the year, regardless of whether it’s a special occasion or not. Of course, if your gal or guy has allergies then be sure you don’t gift them a type that starts a sneezing attack or worse; in this case, you might gift them cookies or another sweet tweet.

6. Make dinner for your partner

When your spouse is having a rough time at work or and you’ve finished at the office early one day, show you were thinking about they by having a hot plate of their favourite food ready at home when they get there. It doesn’t have to be anything fance either; no matter what it is, your sweetie will appreciate it immensely.

Pair the dinner with some wine and you’ve got yourselves a charming evening. He or she will appreciate your care and fall in love with you even more just because you created an opportunity to bond.

Making a meal isn’t even about dinner, really. Instead, it’s about spending quality time with each other, talking about your days, and remembering why you fell in love in the first place. If your partner is an introvert, this type of date is great, as are these other fun suggestions.

Conclusions on old-fashioned romantic ideas

Winning the heart of your sweetie doesn’t always have to be complex. With a few tips and some retro ideas, you’ll be on your way to romance in no time.

Being old-school when it comes to showing affection to your special someone never goes out of style. After all, no one can deny the charm of flowers or opening doors for someone.

Whether you’re planning a grand gesture or just a small token of affection, your sweetheart is bound to fall head over heels for you for the first or the thousandth time.

  1. Thank you, Stella ! I love all of these old fashioned ideas.
What about a card? Inside the card is a clue. When followed it leads to another clue & so on, until the treasure is found.
I suppose the treasure could be you, in some fab lingerie. OR… am I too, old fashioned?

    1. Ohhh the note idea is awesome, a friend of mine’s BF did that for her a few months back. He said it was like the TV show The Amazing Race haha
