The Enduring Allure of Jewelry

A diamond and gold necklace: Alluring jewelry

For thousands of years, people have used jewelry to create and showcase a personal style and signify their social status. From glittering and colorful precious and semi-precious stones to intricately crafted metal, the essence of sophistication in jewelry has endured through the centuries. While quality jewelry was once reserved for nobility, today, everyone can own a unique piece with meaning and value. The right piece can elevate a simple t-shirt or be a meaningful gift for someone special. Let’s look at the enduring allure of jewelry and how it can add sophistication to an outfit.

Sophisticated Elegance

Your idea of sophisticated elegance is probably different than some else—after all, everyone has a style that’s all their own, from their wardrobe to their home decor. With the right piece of jewelry, you can easily show off or create a style that perfectly highlights your unique sense of creativity.

A bold statement piece will almost always bring attention to you. Choose from large sparkling gemstones that reflect light or a more subdued chain or pair of earrings. Oh, and don’t forget about bracelets and rings—these jewelry pieces are easy to mix and match with others that you own. Whether worn by themselves or as a pair, you will give off the vibe of sophisticated elegance.

Best of all, there’s no right or wrong way to wear jewelry. Regardless of what fashion editors recommend, how you choose to wear jewelry is a personal choice that reflects your style.

More on the Allure of Jewelry: It’s Personal

For some, loaning a piece of clothing like a dress or sweater isn’t a big deal. You love seeing your clothing choices looking fabulous on close friends and family. When it comes to jewelry, it’s a little different.

Jewelry can be incredibly personal, which can be especially true when the jewelry is a special gift from a loved one. A piece of jewelry can also represent a significant milestone or event in your life, adding special meaning.

Don’t forget about jewelry and its importance in religious and cultural events—for example, wedding rings. Chances are you won’t loan someone your rings. The same holds true for engraved pieces like lockets, pendants, and bracelets.

Sometimes, the sentimental, personal value placed on a piece of jewelry far outweighs its monetary value. The sentimental value of a piece is also a primary reason some jewelry is passed down through the generations. If you’re looking for an example, the British Crown Jewels often come to mind. Some pieces still worn today include items dating back to the 16th century.

Jewelry Can Be Practical

Okay, so not everyone wants to think of practicality regarding jewelry. Some people prefer thinking of their collection as an expression of themselves. Each piece has meaning, but jewelry can also be a practical investment at the same time.

You don’t need to make it onto the Forbes list of the country’s wealthiest people to own an investment piece either. Gold and silver rarely go down in value. The same can apply to precious and semi-precious stones.

The style of the jewelry can also add to its value. Don’t forget that fashion also tends to repeat. Your gold filigree art deco piece may not be in style now, but it may be at the top of everyone’s wish list in a few years. Even if you don’t intend to add your jewelry collection to your investment portfolio, it’s still nice to know you have something of value to fall back on.

What to Look for In a Piece Of Alluring Jewelry

Whether you are searching for an investment item, something to elevate your wardrobe, or the perfect gift, there are some things to consider when browsing the jewelry counter.

A good place to start is with the metal: gold, silver, and platinum are popular options—but don’t forget about tungsten. The durable material isn’t new to jewelers, but attracting consumers is taking a while. Not only is tungsten resistant to most types of wear and tear, but it also requires less maintenance than some other types of metal, which means it can last for generations.

The design of the piece is another consideration to keep in mind. There’s nothing wrong with choosing a piece that reflects the latest jewelry trend; it can add the perfect statement to almost any outfit. However, if you are looking for a generational piece, it’s probably best to choose a more traditional design—this way, the piece never goes out of style.

Summing Up the Allure of Jewelry

The right piece of jewelry can do more than decorate or complement an outfit—jewelry can invoke real emotion and be a practical investment at the same time.

Whether you plan to pass pieces on to future generations or enjoy them for yourself, the charm of jewelry is hard to overstate. What’s your go-to piece of jewelry and what makes it so special?

  1. I use the gold rope necklaces I inherited from my mother-in-law, a lot. When I want to funk up an outfit, cause that’s me, I use the groovy silver and turquoise jewelry I bought from production after we wrapped Hendrix. I designed the costumes for that Showtime movie. It is a gorgeous collection!

    1. LOL… well I did start writing out anecdotes, mostly about experiences with the stars, but some other happenings, too. They are mostly with a humorous twist or veil. .
I need to get back to it. I go in and out of writing it. As much as it is fun to remember sometimes, I don’t always want to spend precious time reliving my life.

Maybe I need a co-author? Someone to egg me on and create ….. sort of fake deadlines.

The working title is “Take Me To Honeyland”.
I sent you a short story… that the working title is based on.
It’s for feedback, IF you have time. If not, just trash it! Love ya always! xo

    2. I think it’s fun for us who are outside of the celebrity realm to find out tidbits about them. Haha a teammate to encourage you, I get what you mean. I see the short story and will read it ~ Will reply over there ~ Thanks and love you too xxoo

Grateful to the talents given, crochet handmades are the representation of this gift. Thankful to the teacher, the hands God gave produced keychains, bracelets, etc.
