With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it is time to start thinking about what you are going to get this amazing woman in your life to make her feel as special as she is to you. While you could just pick any random bouquet to order for her, it’ll mean so much more when you put thought into it. Did you know that there are different flower meanings?
The many flower meanings
Flowers come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. Luscious lilies, pretty pink peonies, tall and elegant tulips – the list of attractive species that you will find at your local florist is seemingly endless.
When it comes to choosing what to send, you might be surprised to learn that each flower is said to have individual significance. Here is a brief guide to help you choose the bloom to best suit the beautiful lady in your life.
1. Gerbera daisies
Bright and cheerful, gerbera daisies originally came from southern Africa and are available in a range of pretty pinks, yellows, whites, and deep reds. They are commonly understood to have a number of different meanings, including happiness, closeness to nature, and worship of the sun.
2. Sorbet roses
Sorbet roses are famous for their delicate pastel colors and make a great gift for Mother’s Day. Like other roses, they are commonly thought to signify love, although they can also mean secrecy and confidentiality.
3. Anthurium
The simple and exotic anthurium produces heart-shaped blooms that can range in size and color. Anthuriums are known to stand for hospitality, happiness, and abundance. All of these flower meanings make them one of the choices for a great symbolic gift for mom.
4. More flower meanings: Ranunculus
With its paper-thin petals that come in ruffles of bold colors, the ranunculus really is one of Mother Nature’s masterpieces. Whereas a lot of flowers have multiple meanings, most cultures around the world understand them to have only two: attractiveness and charm.
5. Hydrangea
Hydrangeas come in a wide variety of sizes and colors, but few would fail to comment on their delicate beauty. Some debate exists surrounding what they symbolize; the meanings range from gratefulness and understanding to grace and beauty.
When you send a hydrangea bouquet or another type of bloom to mom, make sure you include a special note with it! Just let the florist know what you’d like to say. If you’re not feeling poetic today, including one of these inspiring Mother’s Day quotes in it.
6. Tulips
Perhaps the Netherlands’ most famous export, tulips are endowed with a glorious simplicity that is enhanced by their bold colors. The significance behind the tulip is usually said to be something like “perfect love”.
7. Peonies
The majestic peony is one of the most fragrant flowers around. It is generally thought that the bright pink and detailed petal formation that characterizes the peony symbolizes a number of things, including prosperity, honor, good fortune, and compassion.
On flower meanings and mom

This article has taken you through the meanings of a few of the most popular Mother’s Day flowers. Nonetheless, the symbolism described above is just the beginning when it comes to the hidden meanings behind all the other flowers out there – there’s so much more to learn and appreciate in nature!
It is a good idea to do some research before ordering from the florist if you really want to impress your mother this 10th of May. Whichever bloom you choose, she’s sure to love it as it came from you and shows you’re thinking of her! Wishing all the moms out there a beautiful day!
So much meaning this time of year (:
Mother’s Day, a celebration of life, Mother Nature included.
And right around Easter, a celebration of death.
Even more fitting, the season that is a spring for some, and a fall for others 🤔
Symbolic in every way. I love it!
Another great post 😄 I love your work.
Wonderful, Christy! Timely, and alays good to know. Michael
Beautiful and timely post, Christy! Thanks for the tips and reminder!
Daffodils are my favourite flowers, simple, jocund and smelly(cheap as well)
What a beautiful reminder for Mother’s Day!
The celebration of Mother’s Day is already around the corner and it will be an atypical celebration due to the fact that the quarantine holds us prisoner to greet our loved one personally or without being able to travel where they are. The flowers will be virtual and the greeting too.
The article on the meaning of flowers is very interesting.
Cheers
Manuel
