If you often feel tired for no reason, often have allergic responses, or suffer from bloating all the time, it may be time to try effective detox methods. That’s particularly true after party seasons like Christmas where people tend to let loose and not look after themselves as much as usual. The New Year is usually when you’ll see a rise in people talking about how to cleanse your body of toxins and revamp workouts. That’s when they feel the full force of their recent actions on their general health.
How toxins affect the body
Toxins play a huge role in how you feel and how well your body is able to function. While your body does have natural defense mechanisms to get rid of toxins, sometimes you need to give them a helping hand rather than being a hindrance. The systems in your body that release toxins are:
- Kidneys
- Intestines
- Lungs
- Lymphatic system
- Skin
Sometimes though toxins enter the body at a faster rate than these systems can remove them from the body, or the systems may become compromised. As a result, your immune system can suffer, along with your general health. Acne and chronic fatigue are just two of many symptoms that can occur if toxins are floating around in the body.
So, here are five effective detox methods to help cleanse your body of toxins. The goal is to regain a healthy, fully-functioning system overall.
Effective detox methods can include:
1. Refuel with nutrients – Including supplements
The best way to start refueling during detox is with clean food, in combination with plenty of water and less refined sugars and saturated fats. That makes sense, as when you consume fewer toxins, your organs will be better able to process and remove any impurities.
Therefore, detox methods can include refueling with healthy nutrients. You know where I’m going with this:
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Nuts
- Seeds
- Proteins
By going nutritious with these foods, you’ll be consuming plenty of nutrients, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. Not only will your energy levels increase, but you’ll also support the correct functioning of your organs.
You could even use supplements to support this eating plan, such as glutathione or GSH, which neutralizes toxins to support effective immune function. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant because it helps maintain active forms of other antioxidants, including vitamins E and C. Furthermore, GSH functions as a sort of shield to the cells. It protects the cells from free radicals, day in and day out.
Liposomal supplements are another consideration. Choose advanced formulas like this detox supplement that supports digestion and liver functionality to help give your body a reset. Always check with your doctor before starting a new supplement to ensure it is right for your unique body.
2. Reduce human-made toxins
First of all, you need to start cutting out all the harmful toxins that you’re putting into your body. Common toxins include:
- Alcohol
- Cigarettes
- Coffee
- Foods containing
- Saturated fats
- Refined sugars
These are the main guilty parties when it comes to harmful habits, so try to cut them out entirely or cut down as much as you can every day.
While you cannot remove all toxins from life as they surround you every day in the air and elsewhere. But it is possible to reduce many of them, such as cigarettes… and stress.
3. Effective detox methods: Lower stress
Stress is another big contender that contributes to the toxin levels in your body. Stress hormones release toxins, so try to find ways to manage your stress levels. You could try yoga and meditation, for example, which are proven stress relievers.
Alternatively, go on walks to unwind after a busy day as one of many natural detox methods. And those toxic people in your life? Remove them completely from your social network or, if it’s not possible to say goodbye because you work with them, for instance, then limit your interactions.
4. Stimulate your body’s elimination organs
The liver, intestines, kidneys, and skin are “elimination organs,” meaning they naturally help flush out toxins from the body. But if they need a little encouragement to do so then one option is to use herbs, such as dandelion root and milk thistle. Herbs can help to stimulate your liver, as can drinking green tea.
To help your gut, make sure you stick to anti-inflammatory foods. Why? The healthier and less aggravated your intestines are, the more successfully they can process nutrients and remove toxins.
Also, an infrared sauna can help your body to eliminate toxic chemicals by inducing sweating through the use of heat. When your body sweats, it contains toxins that the skin can remove from your body.
5. Methods that boost circulation
Next on the detox methods list is improving circulation. With better circulation, your body can remove toxins.
Two systems – circulatory and lymphatic – transport the blood cells that make up your immune system. Thankfully, improving your circulation can be easy enough to do with:
- Exercise – cardio and strength training
- Massages
- Hydration – drink enough water!
- Vibration therapy
