A healthy lifestyle is more than just keeping fit. It is easy to get caught up in the stresses and strains of everyday life and forget to focus on your health and well-being both mentally and physically. A healthier lifestyle where you make changes to your everyday activities to benefit you can involve keeping organized and digital detox. If you are unsure about how to start, read below to get an idea of how to get started.
Time for Yourself
If you have a family, or even if you are not at that stage of your life yet and are just juggling work commitments and commitments with friends and loved ones, it will most likely be the case that you’ll be busy and have plans a lot of the time. As we get older and have more responsibility, our days become more jam-packed as we try and find the ideal work-life balance, and spend the free time we have as efficiently as possible. Spending your free time with family friends or a partner is usually the go-to option.
However, it’s important not to overlook having time for yourself. It may be an hour or two before bed where you read a book, or it could be going for a run around your local area once you have woken up. Maybe take an evening class to learn a new skill as you pursue a healthy lifestyle.
Whatever it is, taking some much-needed time to yourself to recuperate is important because if you are mentally engaged with work and interacting with others the whole time, you will eventually burn out. Taking time to sign out and unwind mentally can help reset you for the next day.
Organize Yourself
You can help keep unnecessary stresses and strains to a minimum by keeping organized in both your work life and your social life. We are all familiar with the frustrating situation of double booking, for example. You can stop this from happening in the future by utilizing the calendar feature on your phone, for example, and organizing your home office at home, if you have one, with relevant important dates highlighted. Use sticky notes, reminders, and files to help you. Get into a routine of writing out a to-do list at the start of every week, for example.
Keeping a tidy living area and workspace will also help you have a focused attitude when it comes to work and better organize yourself. A clean working environment will evoke a calmer approach to tasks as you will have a clear space to work with. And if you keep on top of clutter at home too then it’s easier to find things and generally feel more relaxed there. Being tidy can make life a lot easier for yourself, so try to clean up at home at least once a week. In other words, before it gets out of hand. Read on for even more healthy lifestyle tips.
Take Care of Your Menstrual Cycle
Different women undergo different menstrual cycles, so not having the same experience with another person is not necessarily a negative sign. However, your menstrual health can say a lot about your overall health. Duration and regularity of periods, heaviness of flow, the intensity of cramps, and discharge before, during, or after your period are possible indicators of a health problem. Irregularities in your cycle can lead to difficulty in getting pregnant, and changing levels of hormones, especially as you age, can affect your risk of acquiring chronic illnesses.
Although preventing the problems may be impossible, there are things you can do to ensure lower risk. One thing is to keep your weight normal, as being underweight or a higher weight can cause problems with ovulation, leading to hormonal imbalances. Also, you should check that your vaginal discharge is clear, slightly yellow, white, or a combination to see that it is within the normal range. However, you don’t need to fret once a light pink discharge appears as it contains blood mixed with your normal vaginal discharge, and it can happen anytime in your cycle. Many things can happen during your cycle that people you know don’t experience, but all you need to do is follow a healthy lifestyle and know what to look out for to ensure your menstrual cycle is normal.
Go For Walks
A walk with friends or on your own is an easy and effective part of a healthy lifestyle. Walking has not only physical benefits but also mental benefits depending on how you chose to do it. If you have a dog or a friend who owns a dog, maybe go for a long walk, whatever the weather. Try and head out and find new routes, or perhaps challenge yourself to a day hike.
Trying to remain healthy might seem daunting, especially if you are not a big fan of rigorous exercise or the gym. Walking is a great, easy way to keep active and spend quality time with loved ones too. But if you need further convincing, just read up on the benefits of walking.
Head to the Gym
If you are up to the challenge, joining a gym might be the perfect way for you to look after yourself. It’s also a chunk of time you have to yourself and can improve your general health. Break down the average 150 minutes of exercise a week that most experts recommend into several gym sessions a week.
The gym is a great way to unwind after a stressful workday, as is digital detox (see that section later in the article). Plus, you get access to many different fitness machines at gym with a membership. You could also make the most of the pool facilities if you like to swim.
Eat Well: Part of a Healthy Lifestyle
Eating well is another way you can change your lifestyle easily with minimal effort. A healthy diet requires some research into healthy foods that you like, as well as trying new things. You may need to give some thought to foods you can cut out that are high in sugar and fat.
It may require some discipline, but don’t completely deprive yourself of foods you enjoy. It’s all about balance and considerations, such as portion size. There are also products on the market to help you with weight loss, such as meal supplements. You can check out comparisons online to find the best meal supplements available.
Get enough Sleep
Getting enough sleep is absolutely essential in terms of your overall productivity. Typically experts agree that adults function best with seven to nine hours of sleep a night. If you have less sleep then you also likely have less energy. You may then struggle to focus or to give tasks your full attention.
A good way to ensure you’re getting enough sleep is to avoid looking at screens too long in the evening, as the blue light disturbs our natural body clock. Hint: See the next section on digital detox! A good amount of exercise within your weekly schedule can also tire you naturally. This means you will sleep better and feel more at rest because of it.
Digital Detox
Another way to easily improve your lifestyle for the better is with a digital detox. We are all guilty of spending a lot of time online, on our phones and tablets. Some of it is on social media, other times browsing websites or shopping for a cool gadget.
Digital detox or going offline for a set time each day can go a long way to improving mental health. Spend more time interacting with friends face to face, instead of scrolling through social media feeds processing info about them. Although keeping in touch with people online is useful and at times even necessary, a good balance helps ensure you’re not too caught up in screen time.
After all, socializing naturally, including having discussions and sharing real experiences, is generally more enjoyable and beneficial than spending hours conversing online. You can build stronger relationships with people by spending more quality time in person with them. You may find you’re more productive when as you don’t lose track of your time on a screen. You’re on your way to a healthy lifestyle now!
Benefits of Going Offline
By not being dependent on your phone and where the next message come from, you may also find that you relax more and focus better on important tasks. As a compromise, devote an allotted amount of time to your phone or the Internet in the evenings, perhaps; then switch it off after a certain time. Avoid using your phone in bed to help you mentally unwind; rest your body and mind for tomorrow.
Following a healthy diet, exercising, and taking an organized approach to day-to-day life can help you benefit physically and mentally. This all means you take some time to put yourself first. A healthy lifestyle is easier to achieve than you may at first realize. After reading these tips, including digital detox, we hope to inspire you to easily change your habits. Why? To benefit your overall well-being.

There are some really great tips here, I am definitely going to try this out this year
Wonderful. I hope you’re having a happy healthy New Year, Ray!
Very useful! Incredible post thank you!!!
Woohoo, love your enthusiasm!!
Very nice and informative post! So often we forget about improving mental health. But going offline is the best way to relax, meet friends, go to nature…
An offline or digital detox can help center us, that’s for sure!
I’m personally working on the digital detox part! Why is it soooo hard? I’ve been utilizing the new features on Instagram & Facebook that remind you & track how much time you’ve spent on the sites. Alarming but so important for moving forward with solid awareness!
Right on! Awareness of our selves isn’t easy but it’s the way to personal growth, truly. On iPhones, there’s a tracker for amount of digital time per day and it’s helping keep me in check ;)
Love the post! One of the things I need to focus on is taking time for myself both mentally and physically. I could see I’ve been working myself too hard in school and feeling like I have a burn out. Very great tips to helping me improve this, thanks!
Oh no I hope you don’t burn out! Be sure to rest during your school’s holiday break.
Oh Yea!!! I’m doing just that.
Great to hear!
Great to hear :D
great post!
Thanks and hope you’re doing well!
As a stay at home mom, I struggle getting a few of these a day. I have to put real effort into remembering I am a human being too. One thing on your list I do a fair job of is a digital detox every Saturday. We try really hard to do no housework and use no electronics on Saturdays. Sometimes it seems like we’re adjusted to it and sometimes it seems like I am asking the impossible out of my seven year old.
What a wonderful way to be on Saturdays! Having a digital detox can really help you enjoy more family time :)
What a great post. These are things I find myself struggling with on the daily.
I’m glad you find these tips useful for you. I hope things balance out soon for you xx
Reading this has inspired me to go on a ‘digital detox’ – thanks!
Fab post. I am trying to limit my screen time, it does help me get off to sleep better, I just need a better routine. Thanks for sharing 💖
I hope you find a balance that works for you :)

Great you found it useful! Creating a healthy lifestyle needn’t be difficult :)
Thank you for your comment, this is really helpful. Are you a big believer in freezing fruits and vegetables when they go on sale?
-KF
I think they can still taste great even after being frozen. But I admit I prefer fresh :)
Wow this was a really insightful post! Thank you for some great tips and advice on how to live a healthy life. At Health cents we are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle that is affordable. You mention in one of you sections about finding what healthy foods you like and how it may require some discipline. Do you have any top 3 foods that you enjoy that are both healthy and not too expensive? Would love to hear some of your thoughts.
Thanks for your time
-KF
Great questions, KF. Healthy foods that are affordable include fresh apples, carrots, and trail mix :)
Great post!! Going offline is a huge struggle for many, especially those who do not realize how many amazing benefits it has! I tell people that being “healthy” isn’t just how you eat and exercise, it also is having a sound mind (going offline helps a TON.)
Detoxing from digital devices is important, isn’t it?! Great comment here :)
Thanks for such great advice!
Appreciative :)
I love all of the things listed! This is very helpful, thank you!
These tips are very helpful and a great introduction to self-care :). I hope to implement more of the “tidying up,” since a messy space can be a huge detriment to a healthy and clear mind, body, and spirit.
Yes, it’s amazing how de-cluttering a room can improve our head space :)
Oh I can leave a comment here! These are some great tips :)
I think the best thing I did all summer was go on nightly walks with my mom while listening to podcasts. Has made me feel healthier and happier.
I try to limit the number of times I check my phone during the day. Of course my phone and my tablet are rarely far from hand, so I need to get better at detoxing.
Making time for myself and going off line is something I definitely need right now, Christy!
You always hear about nutrition and fitness related topics when it’s an article about healthy living, but I love that you have included “me time” and having a digital detox. Both of those are more important than we realize. Great post!
Me time and health is related, yes! Thank you ~ and I like your name “theoptimisticmomma” :)
