Spine health: Here’s how to improve it

How you sit and your shoes affect the health of your spine

If you’re starting to think about the health of your spine, that’s a positive step. But next you need to take real-world action to improve the health of your spine and make it as perfect as possible. It’s never too early or too late in life to start thinking about the health of your spine. And if you take the right steps, you can improve your mobility and reduce aches and pains.

So, where should you start when you’re looking to improve your spinal health? Here are some of the things that will make a real difference, and the best thing about them is that they’re all pretty simple and straightforward.

Give your spine what it needs when you’re sleeping

The way in which you sleep has a direct impact on your back. So, you should try to make sure that you choose a mattress that offers you comfort and support while you sleep. If you can do that, you will find that you feel better each morning.

People who notice that they often wake up with an ache in the back should think about selecting a new mattress. Even your pillow matters. The different ways in which people can lie when they’re asleep can impact the health of their spine. Find out more about this at hullopillow.com/sleeping-position-and-choosing-a-pillow/.

Find the best care providers for you

There are many instances when you will need to have your back looked at by someone who knows what they’re doing. Chiropractors can do this.

So, make sure that you find one that you feel you can go to whenever you have any problems with your back that require attention. Head to www.maximizelifechiropractic.com if you want to find out more information about this. I

t’s important to have problems with your back treated rather than just ignoring them. Turning a blind eye only causes more problems in the long term.

Exercise in water

The great thing about water is that it allows you to exercise without having to worry about pressure being put on your spine. For example, when you run, you slam your foot down on the floor, which can then send a vibration up through your spine.

But when you do exercise in water, that’s simply not the case. Instead, your body is able to float freely, and you are still getting a workout. So, if you’re concerned about damaging your spine, go swimming instead of going for a run.

Sit less for better spine health

Simply sitting down a little less often can have a big impact on the health of your spine. When you’re sitting, it’s a position that your spine is not totally comfortable with. That’s a big reason why office positions can be bad for your health.

Of course, for short periods of time, it does no damage. But if you do an office job that involves sitting throughout the day, you need to be careful. For a start, you need to make sure that your sitting posture is correct and that your chair supports your back. On top of that, it can be a good idea to consider a standing desk if that’s an option. It’s much better for you.

Always wear the right shoes

This is one of those factors that often flies under the radar because people don’t really know that their shoes have an affect on the health of their spine.

But it’s true that this does have an impact, and you should be careful to always where the shoes that offer you the support that’s required for a healthy spine. They shouldn’t be too tight or too loose because that can affect the way in which you walk, which in turn can cause damage to your spine.

Instead, look for shoes that fit snugly without any problems. The pair should provide you with a firm base too.

Strengthen your abs and back muscles

Finally, you need to think about how strengthening other parts of your body will also improve the health of your spine. Your spine is not isolated; it works alongside what’s around it, such as your abdominal and back muscles.

By taking steps to strengthen those muscles, you can make your spine a lot healthier and able to deal with problems too. That’s got to be a good thing for your spine, so make sure you give this some thought. If your muscles are very weak, your spine won’t have the support that it needs to have.

The final word on spine health

Your spine is one of the most important parts of your body. It dictates your mobility, so if you allow it to sustain damage and become unhealthy, you will notice it.

  1. Very good advice, Christy. I know I should sit less and do more stretching and muscle-strengthening exercises, which I do as soon as I feel tightness in my back, but it would be better if it were a daily routine.

  2. Excellent points of advice, Christy. As a person with back issues that started when I was 22 years young, I know the truths contained herein. I see my chiropractor every 4 weeks for spinal maintenance – I learned the hard, painful way not to wait until I hurt it.

    1. Thank you John for always sharing and reading ~ I so appreciate you! I’m glad you’ve found chiropractic care to be helpful for you xx
