Plot summary of The Watch On The Beach
The Watch On The Beach is a story of abdonment, wisdom and resolve. It is the newest literary fiction release from Emily B. Scialom. Clara Reynolds is a 28-year-old poet who is learning and growing in a wayward manner in Cambridge, England during the turbulent year 2016. Despite an unhealthy accumulation of personal problems, as well as her alarm at the world’s trajectory, she continues to reach for the light of unconditional love through troubled relationships with family, friends and lovers.
This quest proves arduous, however, and in recalling the journey to her failed attempt to end her life she produces a novel detailing her downfall. Exploring themes such as madness, substance abuse and suicide, this is a tale of misspent youth and a young writer’s attempts to communicate the nuances of her own complex and perilous emotional landscapes.
About the author
Emily B. Scialom is a poet, musician and author based in Cambridge, England. She was born in London in 1984 and grew up in Glastonbury, Somerset before relocating to Cambridge in 1996. Having become a nationally published poet aged eight she then turned to songwriting as a teenager before beginning her career as a novelist in 2008. The Watch On The Beach is her seventh release in seven years.
