In this interview, she shares her insights on the importance of effective time management, her methods for recharging when low on energy, and the role of faith in guiding her decisions. Thank you for your service in the US Army. What do you take from that experience to apply in your life today?
My military experience instilled in me valuable qualities, such as discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. These traits are the foundation of my everyday life and have been instrumental in running my business.
The Army taught me the importance of attention to detail, effective teamwork, and adaptability, skills that are equally crucial in the business world. Most importantly, my service ingrained a deep sense of commitment to a mission, and that commitment is now channeled into providing exceptional service to our customers.
Wonderful. I’m curious: why did you decide to start your business?
The Laundry Basket, LLC was born from a desire to solve a common problem: the time-consuming chore of laundry. I realized that many people, especially busy professionals and families, were looking for a convenient solution to this daily task.
In 2022, I founded my business with the mission to provide high-quality, on-demand laundry and dry cleaning services, offering customers more time for the things that truly matter in life.
Why is laundry something a lot of people dislike so much?
Laundry often gets a bad rap because it’s a repetitive, time-consuming task that takes us away from more enjoyable activities. Sorting, washing, drying, folding — it can feel like an endless cycle.
People lead increasingly busy lives, and laundry becomes one more thing on their to-do list. That’s where The Laundry Basket, LLC comes in, offering a solution to free up our customer’s time and make laundry day a breeze.
Interview with Hyacinth Tucker cont’d.
I read recently that many millennial men still don’t do the laundry, with many household tasks landing on women’s shoulders. Why is that, and how can it change?
The division of household tasks often reflects traditional gender roles that have evolved over time. To change this dynamic, we need to challenge stereotypes and promote shared responsibilities within the household.
Communication is key. Families should openly discuss how household tasks can be divided equitably based on each member’s abilities and availability. Encouraging men to take on laundry and other tasks not only promotes gender equality but also allows for a more balanced and harmonious household.
How can your organization’s services help busy women today?
The Laundry Basket, LLC is a lifesaver for busy women (and men) juggling multiple responsibilities. Our services free up precious time that can be better spent on self-care, quality time with loved ones, or pursuing personal and professional goals.
Whether it’s through our wash and fold, dry cleaning, or linen supply services, we aim to lighten the load for our customers and empower them to lead more balanced and fulfilling lives.
Excellent! Speaking of busy, how do you juggle work and family responsibilities?
Balancing work and family responsibilities can be challenging, but one tip that has served me well is effective time management. I prioritize tasks based on their importance and deadlines and I’m not afraid to delegate when necessary.
Additionally, I make sure to schedule dedicated family time, just as I schedule business meetings. Setting clear boundaries and sticking to them helps maintain that balance.
When your energy levels get low, how do you recharge?
When my energy is running low, I find solace in spending time outdoors, surrounded by nature. A walk in the park, a hike, or simply taking in the beauty of the natural world helps me recharge both physically and mentally.
Additionally, I’m a firm believer in self-care, whether it’s indulging in a good book, practicing yoga, or enjoying a soothing cup of tea.
Those are great self-care activities. As a business owner, are you ever scared?
Fear is a natural emotion that everyone encounters, especially in the world of entrepreneurship. I’ve faced moments of doubt and uncertainty, but what matters most is how we respond to fear.
I believe in confronting challenges head-on, seeking advice when needed, and maintaining a positive mindset. Courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to persevere despite it.
