Something that should be so simple can be so challenging for some people, and there’s nothing worse than consistently missing out on sleep for one reason or another. It can leave you feeling agitated, frustrated, paranoid, and overall just feeling negative. It’s never welcome. If you’re going to start getting peaceful sleep throughout the night, you need to identify the problem.
If it’s noise, try sleeping with ear protection in, like earplugs. They can be hard to get used to at first, but once you adjust you won’t be woken up by noisy neighbors anymore. Here are more tips for better sleep:
Check your posture
If you often wake up early and feel like your body is aching, it could be that you’re sleeping through the night without the correct posture. Tand position will cause problems in anyone’s life.
It gets more intrusive as you grow older, but there are a few simple fixes that you can try out to start getting better sleep. Try out sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees, as it helps to take a lot of the strain off of your lower back.
If you prefer to lie on your back, consider putting a pillow beneath your knees to achieve the same result. You’ll likely find that over the next few nights your posture has improved after you’ve woken up.
For more peaceful sleep, try a mattress topper
Part of the problem could be your mattress. Some mattresses don’t have the necessary qualities to guarantee you a good night’s sleep. If it’s too firm, or the springs are sticking into your back while you sleep – that’s a recipe for unhealthy sleep.
You don’t have to go out and spend huge amounts of money on a new mattress. Instead, consider looking into some of the best mattress toppers for back pain. It’s a comfortable addition you lie on top of your mattress and keep under the sheets, and you may benefit from the softness in no time.
Weighted blankets
Feeling anxiety or discomfort while you’re sleeping can easily take a toll on how restful your sleep is. Even if you’re not often waking up through the night, you may never enter the more restful sleeping phase.
One way you can combat this is with a weighted blanket. While they might set you back a little, your sleep is worth investing in.
Daily exercise for peaceful sleep later
Part of the reason you might not feel restful when you get to bed is that you haven’t exerted yourself or used up all of your energy. You’re trying to rest when you’ve still got more go in you.
While your mind might feel tired, your body does not, so working in some daily exercise could prove very beneficial. It’s all part of putting your health first. Make sure your doctor approves of any changes to your exercise routine before you make them.
Get your schedule down
Patterns are important if you want to condition your body and mind. So, having a sleep schedule is crucial if you want to consistently sleep through your eight or nine hours of the night. Try to go to bed and get up at the same time each day, when possible.
A mattress topper and a body pillow have improved my sleep quite effectively.
That’s great to hear!
If you have a hard time sleeping, both are recommended.
I am not one to fidget to excess during sleep, however, both have helped me to relax and sleep quite soundly.
Sleep is very important,
It is! And yet it’s something so many people don’t get enough of. Sleep is a precious commodity xo
Oh, sleep. I’m a chronic awake at 3 a.m. person, ready to do a task, then go back to sleep an hour or two later. I used to think I had insomnia, but my very wise doctor me that many people have an interrupted pattern of sleep and that is normal for them. What is important is how do you feel, are you tired the next day, or do you have normal energy. She had me google “second sleep” and I was amazed that this was how most people slept in the middle ages!
I’m so glad you talked to your doctor about it and that they were able to reassure you that it’s your unique sleep pattern. Wishing you a great day, Dorothy!
Thanks Christy! There are a lot of 3 a.m. folks out there!
Perhaps the online community will be called “The 3 a.m. Crew”!
You bet!
