Being a woman in the 21st century isn’t the same as it was in the 20th or before. However, significant efforts make many industries more accepting of females, with the same opportunities usually reserved for men. While there is still a lot of work to be done, there are some fantastic sectors where inspirational female leaders are shaping tomorrow.
1. Religions and ministries
The Catholic Church historically limited the promotion and acceptance of female priests, but this is no longer the case. Religion is far more accepting of women.
No matter your denomination, online masters degree programs in ministry are an excellent starting point for those looking to inspire Christ-like leadership in modern business. You can be the example and change you wish to see.
2. Modern tech and startups
The tech world is seemingly dominated by men, yet the industry is full of women in powerful positions. Women like Safra Catz and Kimberley Bryant aren’t only powerful female CEOs for Oracle and Black Girls CODE respectively, they are in minority groups. This is because the tech industry as a whole cares more about talent and dedication than where you come from.
3. Media production
Despite the horrendous reports coming out of Hollywood about such people as Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein, women play a crucial role in TV and movie production. Oprah Winfrey is a shining example of what can be achieved if you work hard.
Following the #MeToo movement, the industry is working hard to right some of the wrongs. Yet, it evidently has a little further to go.
4. Medical and pharmaceuticals
The natural compassion of women makes them perfect for the medical profession. Patients find it easier to talk to female nurses, doctors, and psychiatrists.
This may explain why women make up the vast majority of employees in the global healthcare system. The pharmaceutical industry is predominantly male, yet steps are being made to accommodate solid female leadership.
5. Legal services
One of the most accommodating and exciting sectors for female leadership is the legal service industry. Legal forms offer substantial opportunities if you demonstrate aptitude and fierceness in the courtroom. Promotions and careers are forged this way and in the UK alone, 47% of tribunal judges are women as the figure increases all the time.
6. Environmentalism and sustainability
We all like to be heard, and women are fantastic at getting their voices recognized. Some of the most critical issues of our time are headed by strong females.
#MeToo and Black Lives Matter movements have influential women at the helm. And the sustainability movement has its origins in research conducted by amazing women like Rachel Carson, whose thesis on the declining bird population has begun important conversations in America.
7. Investing and entrepreneurism
The banking and financial sectors are almost 100% male-dominated, and this doesn’t look likely to change any time soon. However, you can make a strong career for yourself as a woman in the investment and business world. People don’t care where you come from or who you are, only that you can make money skillfully and legitimately for clients and firms.
I like that women are making forward strides everywhere!
YES! You’re a great example – Keep shining bright!
‘People don’t care where you come from or who you are, only that you can make money skillfully and legitimately for clients and firms.’ So true. Good advice.
