The Wedding Industry Tech Trends You Need to Know About

A laptop and wedding flowers: Talking trends.

Tech is everywhere, providing new opportunities across numerous fields, including the wedding industry. Whether you are getting married soon or know someone who is, learning about the latest wedding tech trends is exciting! Let’s see what’s new that could take the ceremony or reception to the next level.

Digital RSVPs

One of the first steps is setting the special date. Then comes the invites. Sending them out in the postal service is still great for those older guests who don’t use computers. But for everyone else, why not consider digital invites?

With a simple click from their email, guests can open up the invite to your wedding and look around your unique wedding website. They can select “attending” or “not attending” and find valuable information about the ceremony and reception time, date, and location. They can even click through to a map to find out how to get there, which is great for out-of-towners.

It’s a cinch for you to stay organized, as you’ll receive notifications of everyone who’s coming, and anyone who’s unable. Once you have a headcount, you can move on to other decisions like the seating plan and be able to figure out food quantities.

Another benefit of the digital RSVP with Say I Do is that you can ask guests to enter their contact info, which makes creating a final guest list a snap! That’ll be handy if you want to make updates later, ask extra questions, such as food allergies, or send out thank-you notes after the event. You can even integrate the RSVP into a wedding website, where you can later upload photos for guests to remember the big day.

Wearable Tech

You know about the Apple watch, but do you know about “smart” wedding bands? Wearing them can help you and your partner monitor your vital signs and keep track of how much sleep you’re getting so that you’re well-rested for the all-important occasion.

Regarding calories burned on the big day, that would have been interesting to note on my big day! I danced away the night on the dance floor with the guests while my hubby schmoozed with guests at tables as he was not a big dancer. Don’t worry—we did have our special dance in front of everyone during the reception.

There are also rings that can track where you are throughout the wedding day. That makes the wedding planner better able to find you or your other half amid the sea of guests if they have questions about anything along the way. Yes, there can be last-minute decisions to make!

I recently read about how one couple chose recheargable smart rings instead of gold or silver. The techie rings sync to the couples’ smartphones, and by touching their own rings, they can get a real time heartbeat for their spouse (if connected to the internet). Wow, that’s something else!

3D-Printed Decor

This one is great if you, your partner, or someone in the wedding party has a flower allergy. We weren’t able to have real flowers for that reason so we chose a combination of paper and fabric flowers instead. To go more high-tech, you could opt for 3D printing of the flowers. Yes, that’s a thing now!

The centerpieces could come from a 3D printer rather than Mother Nature. You can go a step further and get a 3D cake topper. This bride 3D-printed her bouquet, and it looks great in the pic. She also used two printers to also create bouquets for her bridesmaids, the cake topper, the table numbers, and more.

Other wedding decor you might print includes the decor for the head table, a necklace to wear with your lovely dress, guest name tags at each place setting, and more. I’m sure the options will continue growing.

LED Screens

Our DJ for the big night rocked as he pumped out Top 40 music, and we had a large area for the dance floor after the wedding speeches and dinner was over. Imagine if he had hooked up to an LED screen with his tunes? Talk about taking it to the clubbing level. The LED screen can sync with the DJ or a live band to beome immersive, which can really create a lasting impression on guests.

Of course, this one won’t fit every budget. But it’s a neat idea and shows us how screens are creating fun experiences on wedding days!

We did use a big screen for video footage of us and guests, which was fun. It didn’t connect to the DJ’s performance but the DJ helped organize it, and it was really cool. Photos were also in a slideshow across the screen as people took their seats at the start of the reception.

LED screens can also be useful for carrying out fun games between guest tables or between the couple. Those memories can last a lifetime. Big screens continue to improve in image quality and ease of use.
