Supporting your health, now and forever

Self-care isn't selfish sign

If you are trying to do better with your health, then you may not know where to begin. It can be a bit of a minefield knowing what is right and what is wrong. There have been so many news articles regarding you and your health. Going back to basics when it comes to your health is the best way to manage it. Check out the post below for more information and guidance on how you can look after your health and yourself.

Drink plenty of water

When it comes to your health, there is nothing better than drinking water. Water has so many properties that not only keep you hydrated but also keep your organs functioning as they should. Have you ever noticed that when you’re thirsty, you get a slight headache? That is your body calling out for a drink of water. Being dehydrated is not good for any aspect of your health and well-being.

If you struggle to drink plain water, you could get nutritional flavor cubes to add to water. Or add a slice of lemon. Alternatively, if you are forgetting to drink throughout the day, you might seek IV hydration. Another option to consider is getting a timed water bottle indicating when you need to drink.

Get enough sleep

Sleep is essential when it comes to your health and well-being. Most adults need six to eight hours of sleep each night to feel at their best. It is important to know that your sleep should be solid and undisturbed to feel the effects of a good rest. If you are regularly waking up during the night, then you may find yourself feeling exhausted the following day.

If you regularly lose sleep overnight, consider speaking to your doctor about it. You might also want to look at the age of your mattress, these should be changed every eight to ten years as once the springs and cushions go then they don’t offer the same level of support. You might be waking up because of a lumpy or sagging mattress that needs to be swapped out for a new one.

Exercise

Exercise is a wonderful way to stay fit, healthy, and well. When you exercise, your body gets busy releasing happy hormones. These make you feel great and make you want to repeat that exercise, so you carry on getting the same feelings.

The key to exercise is finding something you enjoy doing. If you feel it’s a chore then you aren’t going to enjoy it as much and might even find yourself making excuses to avoid it. You might really enjoy swimming or going for a run. Most adults feel the effects is exercise for around 45 minutes, 3 or 4 days a week, with time for the muscles to repair and rest.

Attend checkups

If you have been called for medical checkups, it is vital you attend them. They can catch little things earlier than you might notice them. For example, going for sight tests will now be able to inform you if you are at a higher risk of developing glaucoma or even cataracts. As you get older, you will be called for various tests, such as bowel or breast screening.

If you don’t have a doctor yet due to relocating or not getting around to it then you should find one as soon as possible. Check out value-based care success stories to find out more about this type of health practice.

Get out more

Another thing you can do to look after your health is get out more. Fresh air has amazing qualities and getting out of the house gives you something to look forward to. If you stay indoors a lot of the time, then you can become too used to it and can get into a mental rut.

That can also make you more sedentary than if you go outside. To encourage you to get out more, arrange to see family and friends every so often, once or twice a week perhaps, depending on your schedule.

Consider supplements

One last suggestion for ways to boost your health and well-being is to consider supplements and multivitamins. Quality vitamins can provide the nutrients that you may be missing out on in your diet. If you have a restricted diet, then a decent supplement is something to think about adding to your daily routine. Speak to your doctor before you add anything to your diet to make sure that it is safe for you to take it.
