How to take ownership of your future self

Your future self

Do you feel stuck in a rut or negative about yourself? It happens to most people at some point in life. You know what I mean, that feeling of doing the same thing each day and not really getting anywhere. Right now, especially, it’s easy to have this experience. It is hard to overcome a negative mindset such as that, but often it just happens without us even realizing it. Life with COVID-19 is making many lust after what life was like before. But while you cannot totally erradicate COVID, you can begin to take ownership of your future self for a better tomorrow.

Taking back the reins of life

Whether it is a fear of the future, worries about close relationships, or something else, it’s time to be honest with yourself if you are feeling stuck. That is the only way to achieve more satisfying days ahead.

In other words, it’s time to take back the reins of life. There are so many things that you can do to seriously help out your future self.

It may assist you in getting to where you need to be or certainly have the hope of a health and happy future life. So, what are these things? Here are some examples of things that you can start doing today for a better tomorrow.

Drink more water as part of your commitment to take ownership of your life

One of the best ways to start to feel better from within is to drink more water than before. It might sound like such a simple thing to do, but it’s also easy to slip up and find it hard to form the new habit.

Consuming more water is a very effective activity, which is all the more reason to start to do it today. It could be a small step to helping you get clearer skin, feel better, gain decent quality sleep, and improve your mood. Wow!

The common recommendation is to drink at least two litres of water a day, but do most people do that? Probably not.

Why not? It can be hard to get into the habit of remembering to drink water throughout the day if you typically don’t do so and are often on the go.

So, it’s worth trying to keep a bottle close at hand so that you are more likely to take sips regularly. Also, add a slice of lemon to the glass to give it more “oomph.”

Move more: Your future self will thank you

It is also very important for you to try and exercise more frequently if you have a mainly sedentary lifestyle. It’s understandable that you might not be as active lately given the COVID-19 situation. But, as I encouraged you to do at the beginning of this post, begin to take ownership of your life.

Most people stay home a lot more than before for the safety of themselves and others. That’s smart and I applaud it. But it means getting more creative about how to stay active.

Thankfully, YouTube provides many fitness sessions for yoga, zumba, and more. I did a 30-minute fast-walking routine on there yesterday.

Some gyms have also re-opened with strict guidelines to help keep members safe from the coronavirus. If you are comfortable going to one, that is another option.

Or, you might take a walk outdoors instead. I will do that on my lunch break today.

Another idea is to take the stairs rather than the elevator when you’re in a building. What you decide to do for fitness depends on many factors, including your current physical condition, what the doctor says is safe for you to do, whether you are pregnant while exercising, and more.

Make the decision to be more active and you will start to see a huge difference in how you feel. You are also can be proud of taking ownership of your life.

Regular medical check-ups

Getting stuck in the mundane of working then home happens, and soon the days become a blur. It is easy to forget to stay on top of regular medical health checks.

Getting your eyes and ears tested every two years, though, is important. I went last month to the optometrist for an eye exam and was put at ease by the sanitizing measures before I entered the office.

Ensure that you go to the dentist every 6-12 months too. I have to make an appointment for that.

Trips to the GP to check heart rate and blood pressure, even hormone levels if something doesn’t seem right, is also something to consider doing for your future self. Let’s not forget things like cervical screening and regularly checking your body for lumps that shouldn’t be there too.

All of this points to being proactive with your health. That way, you can hopefully avoid health issues in the future.

Feel inspired daily

Inspiration is something that everyone needs a little more of from time to time. That’s why I created this blog to begin with!

So, take the time to get some inspiration now and then. Yes, you can actively seek out things like positive quotes or read uplifting articles.

Or, maybe in an evening, you might want to think about reading an autobiography of someone who inspires you. Another book to pick up could be about ways to improve your mindset or how to live your best life.

It might sound like such a small thing, yes. But surrounding yourself visually with inspirational things can motivate you in many areas of life. When you are a go-getter, you’re actively taking ownership of your life.

Note to your future self: Self-care matters

Taking care of yourself is so important, which is why I write about this topic here a lot. It involves taking time to yourself regularly to rejuvinate and learn more about yourself.

It might be that you want to treat yourself when it comes to things like the products that you use. Add essential oils, for example, to a nice warm bath to make it even more relaxing.

It might be that you use self care to prioritize your body too, such as looking into Laser Toenail Fungus Treatment or getting a haircut. The point is that taking some time out to take better care of yourself when it comes to the skin and hair can make big differences when it comes to how you feel.

Take ownership of your life by embracing mindfulness

Mindfulness is a term you likely hear a lot about at the moment. There’s a good reason for that.

Mindfulness can help you feel calmer, which helps you feel more in control during stressful situations. Then, you’re less likely to be overwhelmed.

How exactly does one practice mindfulness? It doesn’t have to be overly complex. The activity could be as simple as following a guided meditation on YouTube or another video platform. There are great audios available online too for free or a low price.

Another way to be mindful is to take a few minutes each day to go to a quiet part of the house and just breathe. The deep breaths not only carry more oxygen to the brain, which can help you think more clearly, but can also make you feel more in control and appreciate the present moment.

With all of this going for it, mindfulness becomes something powerful to incorporate into your daily routine.

Take care of your mental health for your future self

Maintaining good mental health is vital to your overall well-being. The things that you do today can impact you tomorrow when it comes to mindset and thought process. It’s part of taking ownership of your life, then and now.

Negativity can take hold when you least expect it to, so it might be time to try and think about how you can counteract that. It begins with identifying the negative thought patterns, including what types of situations prompt them and how often they occur.

Changing habits when it comes to your thoughts may feel forced at first, but it can help you to feel calmer about things moving forward. It is about your outlook on life and making some changes to feel better in the days ahead.

Deal with problems head on

Everyone faces problems. If they tell you that they don’t, well, you might want to be suspicious.

Sometimes, the best advice is to deal with issues quickly rather than letting them fester. They can worsen in time if you look the other way, unfortunately.

Dealing head on with problems can feel hard at first, especially if you avoid conflicts. It often feels easier to bury your head in the sand than to tackle the issue.

But, dealing with problems today means you don’t have to do so later on. Plus, you might stop this particular one from being a reoccurring thing or ever happening again. Often they are simpler when handled now.

Take ownership by making plans for the future

Finally, make plans for the future and give yourself something to work towards. The main problem with feeling suck in a rut is that you feel like there is no purpose or goal.

So, change that mindset and start thinking about what you want out of life. Start to envision exactly what tomorrow looks like and whether that is how you want it to be or something else.

If it’s something else, what needs to change for you to achieve it? You won’t regret doing this mental work.

I hope these tips help you when it comes to strengthening your future self.

  1. Love. Love. This. Post! Yes!
I keep trying to comment on your posts on the website, and it just gets stuck so I may be double commenting. 🤪

  2. Excellent pointers, Christy. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Being mindful, or conscious about life and the opportunities it presents to us can bring us so many rewards; health, and healthy living being the springboard.

  3. Thank you for great advises, Christy! I also think taking care of our mental health, drinking enough water, and having a scheduling for our life is best we can do. I hope the predicted issues of C-19 for mental health will not have a too great impact. Best wishes, Michael

    1. Oh yes water is an absolute must. If I don’t have enough then I get headaches. Thanks for explaining about the importance of caring for mental health right now, Michael. We’re in lockdown here. Take care xx
