Things to do on a staycation in London

This post is for the UK readers! You might be back in a nationwide lockdown for the next few weeks, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start planning some staycations in London and around the area once all this is over.

Whether you’re thinking of getting together with a group of old school friends or catching up with relatives, below are some of the best staycations in and around London to get you excited about leaving your house again. With public transport use at an all-time low, why not take the train and grab yourself a bargain ticket too!

Oxford

A fairy-tale of magic and mystic and less than an hour away from central London, Oxford is a must visit when lockdown lifts. More quintessentially British than London, Oxford’s skyline is littered with ancient buildings and twisting spires.

The hallowed halls of Oxford University are a must-see. If you really want to see the city, why not explore by bike?

Not only is the city home to some of the most iconic architecture in the world, but it was also home to some of the most iconic writers, philosophers, and actors in history. Follow in the footsteps of CS Lewis, Tolkien, and of course Inspector Morse as you look around there.

Bath for staycations in London

When you take the train from London, you could be in the historic city of Bath in under 90 minutes. The ideal place for a long weekend of R&R, Bath has plenty to offer. So, be sure to put it on your list of staycations in London and around the area

Stroll along cobbled streets and listen to buskers outside the Roman baths. Look on with lust at the Insta-worthy Royal Crescent or enjoy a spot of window shopping.

Brighton

If you’re meeting loved ones from around the country, then Brighton is a must. It is just south of London. Easy to reach by train coming from Gatwick, a winter weekend in Brighton is sure to be a fun one.

Enjoy walks along the front, as well as exploring the boho galleries and shops along The Lanes. Spend time in the arcades at the Grade II-listed pier too, or wander in awe through the Royal Pavilion. Now you see why it’s on this list of staycations in London and close-by!

Cheltenham

Located close to London, it is known as the gateway to the Cotswolds. Cheltenham is one of the prettiest areas in the UK.

It looks just as glorious in winter as it does when all the trees are in full bloom. Stay in a traditional Cotswold stone cottage and spend the day exploring the picturesque town.

Be sure to stroll through Montpellier Gardens too. Then grab a warming bite to eat in a traditional pub before heading back to snuggle by the fire.
