Desk job dilemma: How to stay healthy?

Desk job health tips

We know that in order to stay healthy, we need to eat well and move more. But when you are based in an office or sat at a computer at home, you’ll know that it can be hard to be as active as you need to be on a daily basis. It’s a desk job dilemma.

What to do for best health?

So, you need to look for some things to do, to help you to stay healthy if you are someone with a sedentary desk job. You can be at more risk of ill-health down the line if you’re not someone that is very active.

By being proactive,  you can plan your calendar to include activities in your free time. Doing so can make a big difference, even if you’re sat down for the majority of the day.

If you spend all day in an office, but want to get some of the beneficial habits that comes from being active, then here are some things to think about:

Eat breakfast

It can be tempting to rush out on a busy morning, grab a caffeinated drink, and be on your way to work. But, instead, do yourself a favor and have some breakfast.

If you don’t eat well, then you could feel tired, moody, and quite sluggish, which isn’t going to set you up for a productive day. When you eat breakfast, you will have better concentration and feel better physically.

Furthermore, eating the right things for breakfast can keep you feel fuller for longer. That’s right, you’ll be less likely to reach for a chocolate bar in the middle of the afternoon for a surge of energy.

Drink plenty of water at your desk job

When you feel dehydrated, it can cause a lot of fatigue and moodiness, which isn’t what you want to be healthy and happy. If you aim to have plenty of water each day, you’ll probably notice a positive difference.

Water isn’t only for your fitness routine! Have a water bottle on your desk to remind you to drink regularly and fill it up when it’s empty. It can also help you to feel fuller for longer, meaning that you’re less likely to snack.

Maintain good posture

With a desk job, a bad back can happen quickly. You can easily hunch over and cause yourself some problems; it could be both nerve and muscular issues.

So, being proactive and remembering to sit well and have good posture when at your desk will help to alleviate any issues. Also, make sure that you take some steps to improve your back pain, like yoga, for example.

If you look up the best poses for back pain, then these are the kinds of things that you can do at home to help alleviate your back pain, as well as help you to feel stronger than before. Small changes can make a big difference to how you feel.

Desk job? Stand wherever possible

If there is a chance to have a standing meeting at work, or a meeting walking and talking with a colleague, then do it. This strategy is better for you than just sitting down.

Alternatively, a standing desk – I have one! – is a great idea. Then, on your lunch break, take the stairs and go for a walk.

If you take public transportation, consider standing on the commute home too, rather than sitting. You’ve been sitting all day, so it can be better for your health to stand.

If you have a desk job, how do you get out of the chair and get some exercise?

  1. Walking rules! Suggestion; find some subject matter you adore taking pics of. Start a blog and show off your shots. It can lead to a passion for walking!
