There are countless news stories about the possibility of living longer. Certain lifestyles and supplements are said to slow aging if you follow them properly. But the truth is that while there’s no surefire way to increase longevity, you can take proactive steps for healthy aging. When did Elysium Health Start?
Leonard Guarente, Dan Alminana, and Eric Marcotulli founded Elysium Health in 2014. Leonard Guarente brings outstanding credentials with him as the director of The Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging Research at MIT. As a team, the goals of Guarente, Alminana, and Marcotulliwere to:
- Study aging and other biological functions,
- Develop research-based general-market supplements and products
The research that led to founding Elysium Health came from laboratory studies of aging in yeasts. These studies resulted in the creation of the supplement Basis, which has similar effects to those seen when people restrict their calorie count.
How the Basis Supplement Increases NAD+ Levels
The target of the supplement Basis is the gene SIR2, which Leonard Guarente identified as the gene that controls aging in yeast cells. Since then, Guarente and others found the mammalian version of SIR2, SIRT1 (and its associated proteins), plays a key role in longevity and metabolic function in mammals. But, it requires the coenzyme NAD+ in order to do so.
Thus, the goal of taking the supplement Basis daily is to increase the body’s levels of NAD+. In turn, this Elysium Health supplement can counteract the any worsening effects of aging and allow people to enjoy healthy aging. That’s because they will have the opportunity to age healthier for longer.
What Elysium Basis Is, and What It’s Not
Leonard Guarente and his colleagues are not in the business of importing and repackaging ingredients that are already flooding the market. Instead, Basis is made only of these two natrually-occurring compounds:
- Nicotinamide riboside (NR)
To be clear, it is not a magic bullet. There’s no such thing! The reality is that people who want to age healthfully will be more likely to do so if they follow good lifestyles. Supplements can provide benefits when taken with your doctor’s approval and along with healthy habits.

i guess it depends on how healthy we live. my mother is 43 but you can’t say it when you meet her in real. the lifestyle has a major effect on our lives working out eating healthy is what can reduces aging i saw so many great informative points here. thanks for such lovely contribution.

Get exercise. Walking, running, bowling, yoga, etc..
Eat your fruit and vegetables. Cut back on soda, red meat, salt and sugar. Don’t smoke and not too many alcoholic drinks. Stay positive.

Healthy aging begins in your youth. The lifestyle of your 20s, 30s and early 40s determines how healthy you will be in your 50s, 60s and 70s.
