Have you been feeling more negative emotions than normal lately? If so, you may wonder, “What on earth is causing me to feel like this?”
The answer might be a lot simpler than you think it is. Research proves that the winter months are the hardest season for people to stay motivated and maintain a good mood. There are many reasons to explain how the season can affect your mood. One of the main examples is the lack of sunlight. Less sun exposure depletes vitamin levels in the body and makes it much harder for you to stay energized and in good spirits. This is something that is a lot more common that you may have thought so don’t be disheartened as you are not going through it alone.
An important thing to keep in mind:
If you suffer significantly when the winter comes around, there could be a possibility you have a condition called Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD. If you feel that the changes in your mood between the different seasons are very dramatic, then it’s a good idea to seek the help of a mental health professional to get to the bottom of why this might be.
So, now you know why the winter months are often a problem for people and perhaps can now better recognize how this can affect you. Next, you will need to find ways to keep your health – both physical and mental – in check so you can feel like the awesome boss woman you are again.
For example, did you know that exercise can help lift your mood? It can certainly help the body feel great too. Thus, it’s worth taking the time to find out (a) how to exercise in winter, and (b) what to wear to withstand the cold effectively.
There are plenty of ways to stay active in the winter months if you take a look online. But we’ll save you time searching online with two easy ways to make exercise good again this winter:
One of the biggest issues when considering exercising over the winter season is what you are will wear. When you initially step out to go for your run, for example, you will be very cold. While you’ll likely want to reach for warming layers, hold off. That’s because once you start, you might quickly find that you need to strip back down to basics to avoid overheating. The problem with winter is that it presents a near impossible scenario for taking care of your body.
One place to look is on Monsta Clothing, where you can find advice on choosing the right clothing for your winter workout sessions. Also helpful is that you can buy the clothing you need on the same website. It’s an all-in-one resource, really.
As an ambitious boss woman, you need to know how to stay motivated at work. That way you are always ready for the opportunities that could come your way. There are many ideas on how to achieve this state of mind. But to get the ball rolling quickly we want to point out these 3 top tips for you:
Give yourself a break, boss woman. It may sound counter-intuitive but allowing yourself to go for a coffee or take a breather helps refocus the mind.
Constantly remind yourself why you work so hard. Having a motivational quote nearby or a list of goals can help keep you ambitious and hungry for the future.
For every achievement, no matter how small, reward yourself. Even something as simple as going old school and giving yourself a sticker can have a positive effect.
The last thing you need to know about being a boss woman this winter season are ways to remain social during the season. After all, it’s at this time of year where it becomes increasingly easy to isolate yourself from friends and family.

Thank you for this list. I always want to hibernate during the winter under a layer of warm blankets. Hopefully I can be more productive during this season.
I just had a brief look at this article and it’s very impressive. Do you work for a printing press as a columnist?
These are really great tips! Something I need to work on although I don’t have 4 Seasons here.
Thank you, Christy. It’s all summer all year round where I live.
This is great insight into why people feel unmotivated during the winter months. Great read!
Great tips for coping with “seasonal blues,” Christy! I definitely notice a difference in the way I feel as the days grow shorter; it’s harder to feel awake and alert when you’re getting up and it’s still dark. I agree that exercise helps, even just simple stretches can improve move and concentration.
Another tip for managing the winter blues: try aromatherapy! Essential oils are powerful mood enhancers. There is even research that suggests positive correlation between some essential oils and improving energy levels, mood, concentration and having a better sleep.
