Clever Ways to Restore Your Mind, Body, and Spirit for Fall

Today’s guest post is perfectly timed with the start of fall nearly upon us. Mianna Korben tells us how to make the most of fall by taking care to adjust your diet, fitting in some me time, and more. Now is the time to rejuvenate our mind, body, and spirit. We hope this post helps you stay healthy and happy this fall.

During this time of the year, it’s very easy to lose your drive, start feeling tired and spent, and in general lack motivation to do the same old thing over and over again. The weather is getting worse, the rain’s starting, and everybody feels more stressed or just bored. Even though fall is a regular occurrence, it seems that not everyone gets used to it no matter how many times we experience it. So, what can we do to avoid the bad mood that can accompany fall? Here are some six simple ideas.

1. Kick-start Your Day

It’s a good idea to drink warm lemon water every morning immediately after you wake up. It’ll give you vitamin boost, which will, in turn, give you the energy you need for the first half of the day. It’ll also warm you up, and it’s a much better idea than coffee, because of the lack of caffeine.

Try to set up a routine of self-massage from your toes and up to your head. You’ll feel pampered, and your skin will be protected and hydrated in the windy fall weather. Do not skip breakfast, and do not eat on the go. Take your time and enjoy a good, healthy, big breakfast instead.

2. Adjust your Diet

Make sure that your summer diet of raw food and smoothies doesn’t follow you into the colder months. Fall is the time for cooked veggies and soups, meat, and stews. To stay healthy and happy in the fall, you need to adjust your diet habits for the colder weather, which means that you need to eat a lot of warm foods. You’ll also want to boost your health before the flu starts spreading. Take some me time. Make an effort to eat fruits rich in vitamins A and C: grapefruit, oranges, mangoes, pineapples, and bananas, among others.

Don’t forget that every change in weather can have a detrimental effect on your health. In addition, water is as vital as ever – the fact that you’re not as hot as you were in summer does not diminish the importance of water. So adjust your diet and continue to drink plenty of water.

3. Take Supplements in Fall

Make sure that your body is ready for all the challenges of fall by taking appropriate supplements in addition to taking care to adjust your diet. Supplements can strengthen your body and help it transition smoothly into the colder months so you stay healthy and happy. For example, apple cider vinegar will help with bloating. And That Hippie Co provides some wonderful options if you choose to make it a part of your fall diet. Also consider taking vitamins A, C and D, iron, selenium, zinc, and B vitamins.

4. Clean and Rearrange at Home

You know you won’t need your summer clothes until next year, so put them away. Take your summer shoes and store them, and bring out your winter jackets, coats, scarves, and gloves. Clean your fridge and oven because you’ll be using them more in the following months. Move your furniture around so you’ll have something fresh and new when the weather becomes grim.

5. Spend Some Time Outside

Fall can be as beautiful as any other season. Go for a walk in a park while the weather is still nice, and enjoy the sight of yellowing leaves. Appreciate the fact that it’s not so hot outside anymore, and that you can go for a bike ride without sweating uncontrollably. Go for a run, or simply take your significant other or kids out for a picnic. While summer changes into fall, the weather and landscape are as beautiful as they can be.

6. Me Time to Stay Healthy and Happy

Do something for your soul as well. Read a book you never had a chance to look at or re-read one of your favorites. Take ten minutes in the morning or evening to meditate, or simply relax with a cup of tea. Start a pottery course, or a creative writing class, if that’s what you like. Do yoga or just cuddle with your cat ten minutes longer than you usually do.

Whatever the activity, make sure that you thoroughly enjoy it. Not only can it lower your stress levels but also help you get through your day. It can be difficult to find me time, but it is very much worth it. If you’re in a bad mood, every aspect of your life will inevitably suffer, so make a point to first please yourself.

Even though the clouds may literally be overhead, it is important not to give into the boredom of rainy days. Fit in a bit of me time. If you pay close attention to the signs your body’s giving you and try to enjoy your life a bit more, you may find that the dreaded fall is not so horrible in the end. After all, who says that rain can’t be beautiful?

  1. Excellent advice! I just learned wire wrapping and that will be my new hobby for this fall/winter. I already meditate and drink tea (and much less alcohol now), so I looked for something that would encourage my creativity, yet off the phone/computer. 😉

    1. That’s great Sheila that you now have something to keep your mind and hands busy aside from online activities :) Wire wrapping ~ that intrigues me!

    1. Yes, I’m always amazed by how much focus goes into spring cleaning but not so for fall cleaning. I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead, Norah.
