Career Success for Stay-at-Home Moms: How to Make It Happen

Stay at home moms career success tips

For many women, juggling kids while heading to work daily seems overwhelming. You often end up feeling as though you are spread too thin and can’t give 100 percent anywhere because of the many responsibilities. For these reasons, so many women choose to stay home with their kids instead, but that doesn’t mean they don’t still have career dreams and goals, and it doesn’t mean they have to give up on them. It is becoming much more common for stay-at-home moms to have career success. Working from home can provide the best of both worlds and feelings of fulfillment in all aspects of life.

Of course, it’s all fine and dandy to say a stay-at-home mom can have career success simultaneously, but making it happen is a whole other thing. If you’re a stay-at-home mom looking to jump-start your career, or perhaps you currently work out of the home and want a boost, here are some suggestions.

Speak to Your Current Employer about Working from Home

If you already have a job that you enjoy and want to continue with, then there may be a way that you can work from home. Thanks to technology, many jobs can now be done from a residential office without any interruption to work done.

If you are in a job doable from home, then it could be well worth speaking to your employer. They may not want to lose you and deal with hiring and training someone new. There are also many other benefits to allowing employees to work from home, including enhanced job satisfaction.

Brainstorm Stay-at-Home Options, Moms

Not already employed in a position you love? Or it’s not possible to do the current job from home? Then, a brainstorming session is useful. The sheer volume of jobs doable from home may surprise you! Check which positions align with your expectations for income and can provide reasonable job satisfaction.

Some ideas include blogging, pet sitting and dog walking, consulting services, tutoring, teaching, selling products online, a virtual assistant, and more. The goal is to think about your skills, experience, training, and education and then find jobs fitting these personal strengths. Creativity can also go a long way as you try to find ways to do these various positions from home.

Brush Up on Your Networking Skills

Even though your office will be your home, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get out there and network. Networking is important for any start-up, regardless of the industry or where you plan to set up the office. Use this activity to connect with potential partners, vendors, suppliers, mentors, and future customers.

Networking can also be an excellent way for stay-at-home moms to learn about opportunities that fit personal needs and interests. Take, for example, the Kyani business opportunity. You may not otherwise hear about this opportunity unless you start talking with other entrepreneurs.

With the Kyani business plan, you can access instructional materials, sales tools, and more to help you set up a successful business. Want to learn more? You can review the Kyani business opportunity and decide if it makes sense.

Stay-at-Home Moms: Your Modern Entrepreneur

If you want true success, embrace the entrepreneur mindset as you work from home. To be a successful entrepreneur, you need to be able to take action, be an “ideas” person, be meticulous about planning and details, and have excellent money-management skills.

Don’t let fear stand in your way; work hard and embrace challenges. These skills will come in handy at different times and for various reasons. All of which will help push you and your business forward.

Get the Support of Your Family

It’s also important to talk with family, specifically those in your household, so they understand your goals for career success. There will undoubtedly be times you need a bit of extra help when you work from home.

It might be using a mobile laundry service like The Laundry Basket or asking your parents to watch the kids so you can meet a deadline. As long as everyone is on the same page from the start, it should be smooth sailing.

Set a Schedule and Stick with It

While this tip may seem basic, it’s essential to career success for stay-at-home moms. A schedule is necessary to fit everything between work and mom duties. Sure, there will be times when things pop up, and you have to veer off schedule. But, in general, it will pay off to stick with it.

That may mean waking earlier in the mornings to work and then continuing during naptime or at night. Or, maybe you decide to hire a babysitter one or two days a week so you can work without interruptions. A schedule may also take some trial and error as you determine what makes the most sense.

Continue Learning

Never stop learning! Only then can you keep up with industry trends, new software, the latest products, and more. Staying relevant in the business world involves knowing what’s going on, whether learning from leading business magazines, subscribing to top biz sites, or attending networking groups.

Another great idea is to join a professional organization in your niche. They often have newsletters, conferences, and webinars to keep you abreast of happenings in your career area.

Stay-at-Home Moms, Never Give Up on Career Success

While women used to be forced to choose between career success and being stay-at-home moms, times have changed, and for the better. Today’s women have all kinds of opportunities open to them.

Stay positive and believe in yourself, even when challenges present themselves. And those obstacles will come, so be persistent, continuing to work toward the objectives set. Follow your dreams, ladies!

  1. I have two kids, the youngest is a toddler hence my hands are full most of the time. I also work online and the biggest struggle so far is sticking to my schedule. I barely have time to sleep as I can only work when the kids are asleep.
