A Newborn Baby (Again!) In A Small Home

A new baby comes with the need for more space in a house.

Mummies love their job so much that they decide to go back to work as soon as possible. No, they don’t go back into the office – they choose to become a mum for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th time. There isn’t a job as rewarding as raising a child and watching them grow into a full-grown adult. After all, there has to be a good reason to go through the pain of childbirth! Of course, adding to the family doesn’t always go smoothly, especially if there isn’t enough space at home. But, the baby is on the way so parents-to-be have to compromise.

Here are four great suggestion for any new parents looking for inspiration when it comes to making the most of space in a small home.

Shared Dorms

In the beginning, the baby is going to sleep in your room. For the short-term, this is as good an option as any because no extra room is needed. Sure, babies come with lots of accessories, plus a crib takes up lots of space, but it’s mainly cosmetic. Let’s face it – there isn’t a need to create a new room out of the attic or basement just yet. As the baby grows up, don’t be afraid to get child #1 to bunk with their sibling. Kids Avenue furniture uses bunk beds to great effect to consolidate space because there’s no need for two frames. It may be a little tight, but the two of them (or more) will adapt.

Storage Hacks

Thankfully, there are plenty of storage hacks at your disposal. The trick is to get creative and think outside of the box. Speaking of boxes, does your TV sit on a sleek stand? If the answer is yes, you may think you are saving room when, in fact, you’re doing the opposite.

Replacing the stand with a chest of drawers is an innovative way to store more household items. And, babies come with lots of gear so you’ll need plenty of storage solutions.

Fold-Up/Down

One way to save or create space is to invest in things that are portable. An example would be a fold-down changing table. Simply install it in the wall of the bedroom, for example, and pull it down when it’s time to change a diaper. Then, when the stink subsides (!), you can put fold it back up. This is very practical because there’s no reason to have a bulky changing table in the middle of the room. Another cool trick is to buy toys, accessories, etc. that have the same fold-up/down design.

Renovation

Storage spaces are important and they can be flexible too. For example, if there are too many clothes, toys, or whatever the case may be, they can go under the bed. Or, put them on hangers on the wall, or simply put them on a high shelf.

Plus, doing so makes other solutions unnecessary, such as a built-in wardrobe. Take out the closet and make a small bedroom instead where a crib will fit snugly. It’s amazing how restructuring can create more room.

Another option is to add a second story to a small home. Doing so can instantly increase the value of the residence when the time comes in the future to sell it.

Are you ready for the merry-go-round? Hopefully, these tips come in handy! Find more ways to get your home ready for the baby in this guide.
