Having The Healthiest Family Life You Can

Family fun

When it comes to living in a house with the same people 24/7, there can be a lot of arguments that crop up! Sometimes the littlest things can set us off, and we all have annoying habits that might tick off another person. But that doesn’t mean this environment has to stay the same way, and we don’t have to get used to it either.

Having a healthy family life is essential to both our mental and physical health, and there’s a lot of things we can do to make sure we feel as happy as possible when  surrounded by the people we love the most. So if you feel family relationships lacking, here are some ways to try to promote a healthier environment, and have some fun at the same time!

Talk to Each Other More

Communication is the number one thing for a healthy environment, and there’s a lot you can do to make sure the people living with you talk to each other more. You should want to hear about other people’s days, and being able to chat and have a laugh with someone you love is one of the best pleasures in life. So, try playing games together; it requires little effort to get an app to share or dig a board game out. Also, you might implement a rule that stops phones being from coming out at the dinner table.

If you have trouble communicating for any reason, look for solutions outside of the home to try and make it easier. Let’s say you have trouble hearing, which can lead to another big argument when the person talking to you is in a bad mood… Look into Otofonix hearing amplifiers to make sure all the next times you communicate with people never has any repercussions for you. Talking is something everyone should be able to do after all, and being able to listen is a huge part of that.

Go on a Date Night

A relatively simple step but so often overlooked! This is essential if you have a partner and you’re feeling down about the lack of time you have together, as most couples in families do. Having a date night involves setting aside a time when you’re both free and dropping the kids off with your parents or someone else you trust for the night. A date night can be key to making sure the ‘magic’ is thriving. Plus, it’s something to look forward to this week.

Making time for your significant other when you both feel like the kids are the most important people in your life doesn’t have to be malicious or guilt-ridden in any way. You deserve this time with each other! You’ll thank yourself for it too when a very stressful new week rolls around.

All in all, having a healthy family life doesn’t have to be hard, and compassion can be evident in everything you do for each other.

  1. Christy, very well said! Also, what I’ve learned over the years is to have a date night (or day) with your children. They need that focused attention more than we can imagine. Spending one on one time with your kids builds trust and affection between parents and children. Thanks for the insights!

  2. We set Saturday nights when we have all the kids together for games night, we put the toddler to bed and get the monopoly out. The kids love it. We don’t get much opportunity for date nights but we don’t mind, we probably get to go out once every three months… 😂

  3. Amen to all of that! My husband and I got to go away for each other for a little while and it was wonderful coming back and seeing our kiddo, we actually had time to miss her❤️

  4. There is nothing important than family they always come first. The meaning of family is to be with you until the end of your life whether you are in heights or downs. Family means the people you are surrounded by you. Try Onata they provide best neighborhood services in new jersey.

  5. I’ve found so many helpful principles in the Bible that helps you to build a happy marriage and family. I recently read a brochure entitled “Your Family Can be Happy”.

  6. Nice article, Christy. Happiness that comes from family is the best and cannot be replaceable. Family means the people who help us in times of need and cherish each and every moment of our life. Try Onata for making your life better than before.

  7. Great post, Christy! As a family, we’ve always eaten at least one meal a day together (depending on schedules) to talk about our highs and lows. And nowadays, phones aren’t allowed at the table, either. Also, after 29 years of marriage, my hubby and I still go on date nights.:) Have a good weekend, my friend…❤🌼

  8. The family that eats and prays together stays together is an adage I have heard from my school days. Now it would seem to be truer than ever before. Communication sustains relationships and your narrative, Christy, brings it out beautifully..

  9. Good tips, Christy. We try to spend time together as a family whenever possible, though it certainly gets harder the older kids become. We will make time for activities like trips to museums or playing games. The challenge is finding something everyone is interested in.

    1. I suppose another option is to do what person A wants one time then person B’s choice next time… To keep everyone happy can be easier said then done, as you say, Amy. But I’m glad you’re making the effort as a family; that’s what truly matters <3

  10. Love this! We eat dinner every night as a family and no phones are allowed. We talk about any and everything and it’s amazing! Side note: no one has died during dinner without their cellphone, laptop, or tablet for the one hour that we eat 😆
