Getting the best value for money beds

best value for money beds

Obviously not every mattress is made the same. And neither is the human body. For this reason, there are many kinds of mattresses out there, including memory foam, latex, innerspring, and special therapeutic. Well, there’s a lot to look for, especially when you’re on a budget. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone when it comes to figuring out how to find the best value for money beds.

Where to start on your search for the best value for money beds?

Thankfully there are mattress buying guides out there to help you make a more informed decision. But how do you decide which one to use? Are they biased? Then I read a review called
The Best Mattress
that is free of sponsorship and points out the benefits and drawbacks of six popular mattresses. As per this review, Saatva’s Loom & Leaf mattress is in the #1 spot. And this is the second time it’s gotten this rating (the last review they did was 2 years prior).

While the Loom & Leaf is not the cheapest memory foam out there, it does have many positive qualities, including a hotel-like feel, cooling gel fabric centering around the spine, and 4 layers of foam for great support.

So, this leads me to wonder, how do you get the best mattress for your money?

Shopping on a budget

The reality is that you’re likely on a budget. One of the best options you can do is to educate yourself on the different types of mattresses.

Read online reviews from mattressmatchers.com and researching online is a great way start. Here in Victoria, BC, the prices are crazy for everything in the store – we’re one of the most expensive places to live in Canada! So I’m always on the lookout for the best deal.

The reality is – thankfully for anyone like me that’s on a budget – that the most expensive mattress needn’t be the best one. The Loom & Leaf isn’t bearing the highest price tag or the lowest. But it might be the ideal one for you.

My point is that it’s more about shopping for the best mattress for your body type and comfort preferences. So, you’ll want to look at more than just the price.

Features to look for in a mattress

When the mattress starts to sag in the middle, which typically happens over several years of use, it’s time to get a new one. You’ll likely notice that your sleep quality isn’t as good as it once was either.

To find a new mattress, you’ll have to test your existing one to know your preferences. If you lay on your bed and notice it has a lot of give then you’ll want a softer style of mattress (assuming you like your current style). If it’s stiff under your body, then a firmer one is what you ought to look for in store.

If you have a medical condition, it’s important to speak with your doctor and find out what they recommend for you. Keep their professional advice at the forefront of your mind when shopping. You may want a special therapeutic variety of mattress.

What are the differences: Memory foam, latex, vs. innerspring?

If your mattress is soft, then you’ll likely gravitate toward a memory foam. It conforms to your body as you sleep yet provides great support. Plus, there is good air circulation, less motion transfer (if your partner turns a lot then this is awesome), hypo-allergenic, and eco-friendly.

As for a latex mattress, it molds to your body shape when the temperature rises, while offering more comfort than memory foam. If you’re prone to allergies, then you’ll appreciate that the latex wards off mildew and mold.

As for innerspring, it’s made of foam or cushion and springs. There is excellent support with cushioning. Another name for an innerspring mattress is “coil.” If the coil count is higher, then this means it is firmer and luxury-feeling. This type of mattress also cools the body, which is great if you sleep in a warm area and want a more comfortable sleep.

Final tips for the best value for money beds

Reading reviews online is a great way to decide between mattress models, once you determine the kind of mattress you want. When you’re ready to buy, whether it’s online or in-store, ask if there are trial periods.

Inquire about the warranty too, in case you need to use it down the road. If possible, lie on a mattress for several minutes before choosing it to determine if it truly is comfortable for you.

AND look for sales – you could just get your dream mattress at a fraction of the price!

Then stock up on quality sheets and pillows to complete the bedrooms of your dreams, before dreaming away the night.

    1. Yes, sleep quality is so important to how we live while awake – it’s amazing how many people sacrifice sleep (although I recognize it’s not always within their control).

  1. I have this mattress I love…supposed to be eco-friendly with natural rubber (latex?) at the core and a bamboo cover. Have no idea, unfortunately, what the brand name is. It just says “bamboo” on the mattress. But I love it. Course, it’s the first new mattress I’ve had (well, since I was a kid) and it’s about…eight?..years old. Still comfy though!

  2. I went though this a half year ago. In the end I bought an ENDY. For $850.00 incl. delivery, it’s the best money I’ve spent in ages!

    1. Thank YOU for being here. A good sleep is so important – and ironically we often fall short on zzz’s!

  3. I am laughing hysterically. I read the title and I thought this was an advertisement.
Now, seriously, it is important to have a good mattress and comfortable pillows. Sleep is one of the most important things we do in life.
