Looking for your dream house: What are the options?

Dream house options

When looking for your dream house, it usually isn’t as easy as locating it, moving in, and setting everything up perfectly. Instead, you’re more likely to find several different road blocks and bumps along the way.

Firstly, the right place may take some time to go on the market. And that’s not all. Secondly, you may not even know what your dream house looks like in the first place. When you’re faced with a lot of different options, it can be hard to whittle them down and choose the right one. So, let’s take a look at what you could consider in the hope that your perfect choice will become clear.

Long-term rental

Renting is always going to be a strong option for a lot of people. When you’re young and unsettled, or you’re not really sure where you want to put down roots, renting can be a great choice for you.

It also comes with a lot of benefits. If anything were to go wrong with the property, it’s your landlord’s responsibility to take care of it. So, when looking for your dream house you might get a long-term rental option that is a good fit price-wise and suits your family’s lifestyle too.

Short-term furnished

Obviously, long-term house options aren’t the only kind of rental choices out there. Sometimes opting for something more short-term is going to be the best avenue for you.

A short-term furnished rental can be great if you’re moving to a new city for work, especially if you don’t know how long you’re going to be there. It can also be suitable if you’re not sure where you want to be, so you can test out the area first before you commit to something more long-term.

Buying an oldie

Now let’s consider the first kind of buying option. This is purchasing an older property.

This choice appeals to a lot of people who are looking to put their own spin on a house as older properties tend to need a lot more work than newer ones. These properties also come with character so they are charming to those that don’t want a style that is brand new.

You also might be want to rent out the property. If so, this guide on how to choose a property manager can help you keep on top of maintenance activities and administrative tasks.

Buying a newbie

On the other hand, when looking for your dream house, you might want specifically to buy something new. There are many new home builders if you do want something new who will craft a property you and your family loves and want to reside there for many years.

This option can often appeal to people who want something fresh and modern. It is also appealing if you want to be the first ones living in the property.

Improve your current home

Then again, another option is to improve your existing home to make it more “you.” This is something I encourage everyone to do as when you’re in a place a while you grow and change, so it makes sense to update your surroundings.

Whether your tastes change or you simply want to refresh the home, there are plenty of choices. A big gamechanger when it comes to how you feel about the space is wall color. Maybe you pick a certain room to makeover or you decide to paint the hallway. It’s up to you as the owner, and paint is relatively inexpensive.

Adding some great wall art is another option. Or it might be a clock that you put up or a mirror instead. A new trend in home decor is multiple prints across a wooden backing.

I love how that art creates a sort of scene for the eyes, rather than the traditional single print. Plus, if you want to create a feature wall, then it’s a really easy way to do it!

Build your own

Finally, you may also want to consider building a house. This is the dream for a lot of people.

But, it can come with a significant amount of work and stress, so you have to really want it. You do get a lot of freedom, however, and will finally own a home that is something you’ve always envisioned. So, building your own could be an ideal option for finding your dream home.

  1. You know, when we bought our home, we put offers in on three homes before this one worked out. We are really happy with our purchase but likely would have been happy with any of them. They all had their ups and downs. But at this point, i wouldn’t trade our current home for anything. We have made the hours a home. Cheers!

  2. Rats! It’s snowing heavily, as I look out my den’s window. However, I am cozy in my home. I had rented for many years, until I reached the decision to buy.
Being in my own home makes me feel much more warm and secure than when I rented.
The thing is, while renting for 15 years, I was able to save up a lot of money for a down payment. Now, rents are so much higher than back then, and so is the cost of living. Here’s a poke in the eye, wages are not that much higher. Nonetheless, as one reaches retirement age, your home is your asset for a wonderful sunset.
    Love and hugs! _Resa
