When it comes to healthy living, you think of fruit, vegetables, and other dietary requirements that you feel need be met to look after your body and mind. But there’s far more involved with maintaining a healthy lifestyle than eating the right kinds of food. We can’t always predict the medical issues we might run into but there’s a lot we can do to reduce the risk of certain problems arising and to improve specific health problems when they do arise. There’s more to looking after yourself than eating your greens, and here are some of the health aspects to focus on.
Sensory health.
First of all, don’t neglect your senses. Even if you’re young, this point applies to you. Visual and auditory health are usually topics of conversation for older generations but younger people can be prone to problems with their eyesight and hearing too. You need to look after your senses. You should ensure that you don’t strain your eyes by looking at screens too often and that you don’t damage your hearing by listening to devices too loudly. If you do notice that your hearing has diminished, for example, don’t counteract this by turning up the volume. Instead, improve the source of the health issue.
And, if you notice that you’re straining to read things that are far away (or too close), then get an eye test; straining your eyes when your eyesight has already deteriorated can do more damage. It’s also good to have eye tests to highlight any other visual problems you might have. Of course, do your research into topics discussing such medical issues as cloudy vision if you’re worried that you might not be in good health. Above all else, regularly see medical professionals, including opticians, about your senses to be sure you’re not damaging yourself further by neglecting to fix the problem.
Physical health.
It’s integral to keep your body active every day. Exercising doesn’t have to mean that you work out at the gym for several hours on a frequent basis. The goal isn’t necessarily to gain a six-pack and an incredibly toned body (if that isn’t what you want). The goal is simply to keep your heart and mind healthy. There’s more to think about than your weight; healthiness is about keeping your entire body in fit and fighting shape. Working out more promotes positive mental health and can help you avoid issues such as obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
Sleeping schedule.
As a final piece of advice, you can do a lot to improve your health by simply fixing your sleeping pattern. If you’re not a morning person then perhaps you ought to become one. But it’s not just about waking up early, of course; it’s about getting enough sleep. You should aim for 8 hours per night. Additionally, invest in a firm mattress that supports your body well. This will reduce aches, pains, and the constant feeling that you’re lacking in sleep.
Fantastic post! Especially the part about sensory health. It’s one that not many people consider.
So great to hear that the sensory part is appreciated. Nice to see you here, Fiona!

Your comment is so cute – like you!
One thing I am very appreciative with technology is how we can measure our “health” so much better than in the past. The new watches that are able to provide info on heartrates, sleep, exercise, etc… actually make me more aware of health and keeps me moving or sleeping when otherwise I may not. Of course, it is ironic how technology and staring at the computer for hours on end, end up being the cause of many health issues. Great post Christy.
Great advice, Christy. I just wish I was better at following it. :)
Nobody is perfect… Let’s just try to do our best and if we fall off the wagon then we get back on and keep trying, Norah ;)
That’s true, Christy. I’ll try to stay on longer next time. :)
