Your Health Is In Your Hands!

Being active can make a big difference on your health

One of the worst things in modern society is the fact that a lot of people treat their health like something that’s out of their hands and that they’re little more than passive participants in it. The truth is that you have a huge impact on your health on a day-to-day basis and ignoring that fact is setting yourself up for some serious problems down the line. If you’re not willing to take your own health seriously and start thinking about how best to take care of yourself, then you could well end up in a lot of trouble. In order to keep that from happening, here are a few simple ways that you can finally take your health into your own hands.

Get active

In the modern era, the reliance on machines and computers to do everything for us means that most of us live incredibly sedentary lifestyles. We sit in front of computers all day at work, drive home, and then sit on the couch in front of the TV all evening.

There are very few times when we are forced to actually be particularly active which means that you’ve got to take charge and start doing it voluntarily. Even something as simple as taking a walk around the block every day can make a huge difference to how healthy you are.

Cut out the junk

Now, this doesn’t just mean junk food, although it’s a good idea to cut back on that as much as possible. This also applies to things like drinking and smoking.

The whole “live fast, die young” act might have been cool once, but most of us know just how terrible the consequences of that kind of lifestyle can be. By cutting that kind of junk out of your life, you’re able to be in much more control over your body as well as how you actually live your life.

Speak to the professionals

Here’s one of the most common issues among many people today. No matter what’s wrong with them, they refuse to go and speak to a doctor.

People either ignore things or try and come up with solutions on their own. However, there really is no substitute for legitimate medical help.

If you have questions about your health, then your GP can talk to you about them. If it’s an emergency, find urgent care facilities near you. You should always know exactly where the best care is for you and those around you whenever you need it.

Of course, it’s important to remember that there’s a big difference between taking your health into your own hands and letting it completely take over your life. When your fears about your health start to get in the way of you being able to live your life the way that you really want to, that’s when things have gone too far.

That can become a serious problem. The idea behind taking control of your health is so that you no longer have to spend all of your time worrying about it.

  1. Great post. However, as a high school wrestler, I happen to know a couple things about living healthy. The diet needs to be stressed more. If a person exercises for 3 hours a day but eats crap, they will stay fat. Great post, just please emphasize more dieting.

  2. An interesting post, Christy. I think I am the opposite with regards to seeking medical help. I panic so much about Michael’s health that as soon as he gets a sniffle I want to rush him to the doctor. I have slowly learned that taking him to early is counter productive so I try to wait a bit now.

  3. Great article Christy. Also, don’t forget regular check up’s and screenings (especially for Breast Cancer for us women). That saved me from bigger troubles!

  4. I remind myself that any movement no matter how little still counts toward movement. The turtle did win the race after all <3

  5. Couldn’t agree with you more. I’m always amazed when I hear an overweight person who smokes and won’t walk to the remote, complain about health problems. On the positive side, I have so many friends who take it for granted that they’ll exercise everyday and never stop at McDonald’s. As a matter of fact, my 60-year-old brother just finished his (10th) triathlon. So proud of him!

    1. Wow, congrats to your brother, Pam! That’s fantastic :) You’ve pointed out both ends of the spectrum in your comment for sure. Wishing you a healthy week ahead!
