Growing Old Disgracefully: A Must Read Guide For Women

Sex for the over 60s

As we grow older, we become calmer and more obliging to others in our frailty, or that is what society says we are supposed to do, right? But what if you don’t want to do that? What if you want to carry on raising hell, speaking your mind, and dancing to the beat of your own drum? Well, good for you, I say, and keep reading for some suggestions on how to be your best self, no matter how many miles you have on the clock.

Your Age is Your Business

No one needs to know exactly how old you are, not because there is anything wrong with that but because it doesn’t define you. That means standing at the bus stop saying, “I’m, 87, you know!” to passing strangers is out, and taking action to feel as good as you ever did is on.

The action you take, of course, is up to you; it’s your body after all. You may want to explore the different types of hearing aids on the market so you can get the full benefit at the next rock concert you go to. Why not take up a new physical activity that gets the blood pumping and the oxygen flowing around your system? You may want to rock out and buy the latest red lipstick to wear on your next night out with the girls, or even decide that a slinky little black dress is the perfect outfit for your next date with your partner. Just don’t let anyone tell you that you are too old for that! As your age is not your identity, and you can choose to be however you want.

Sex Doesn’t Stop At 60

Being intimate is a valuable and enjoyable part of life. That means it is something to make an effort to keep doing no matter what our age. Luckily, more and more people are realizing this now, and there is some great advice on intimate relations for the over 60’s you can read to help you keep having fun in the bedroom.

Keep Following Your Passions

Retirement can be a tough time for a lot of us ladies. When women step away from the workplace, and the children are grown, the purpose and drive that we have relied on can seem to dissipate with it. However, it can really help to use the time you gain in retirement to follow your other passion in life. The things that perhaps you had always wanted to do but never had time when you were working and raising a family.

Maybe you will go back to college and get that art degree? Perhaps you will dedicate some of your free time to working to preserve the natural environment where you live? Maybe you can help others by reading to the kids at the local school or tutoring adults in English or another language? The possibilities are truly endless, so embrace this later stage in life by picking some meaningful goals to work on.

  1. I love this, Christy. I’m forty-six years young, and I like to say that age is only a state of mind. There’s no reason to give up activities or change my lifestyle simply because I’ve reached a certain milestone, as long as I am comfortable in my body and healthy enough for what I want to do.

  2. This isn’t one for me but my mother is now 69 so I’ve just copied the article into a word doc so I can print it to her for her to take a look at – I think this is a great reminder : “As your age is not your identity, and you can choose to be however you want.” Love it!

  3. Hi Christy…
Age is but a number and as long as you stay active in all aspects of life you are going to be just fine. I lie to think of the number getting flicked off the pad of those who keep track. Me I say just let it happen… anything and everything I have ever done has brought me to where I am today… Just bring it on and once I get get started best look out if you are anywhere close you may just find yourself doing near anything.

    Hugs as always

  4. I apologize, Christy, I just couldn’t resist – even though the title said it was for women. I thought that maybe there were secrets here they don’t want us guys to know… a CONSPIRACY! Just kidding around, dear! Interesting stuff. I might try that bus stop strategy… “Hey, everyone, I’m 66 years young! Betcha thought I was 76, eh!” (Who was that looney tunes guy?)

    1. Hahaha you’re awesome ;) OF COURSE you can comment on anything – I don’t want anyone to ever feel excluded from the space here. Oh your comment does have me laughing! I might just have to start taking the bus so that I can witness that moment ;)

    2. Thanks for understanding my need to play the clown from time to time. I figured you knew me well enough not to be offended. See you at the bus stop! “Hey everybody…”

  5. I read your post even though I’m male. I thought a lot of what you wrote carries over to males also, but most don’t talk about it. I guess males don’t tend to talk about emotions or weaknesses that much so dealing with aging may be in that basket also.

    1. Thanks Gaston. This one is from the female viewpoint as, well, it’s blog focusing on women. But YES it DOES apply a lot to men too and I never want males to feel excluded! Thanks for your comment :)

  6. AGE…I would define it as Awesome… Goals… Exhort
All that you have not done, all those dreams that have been waiting, all those places you always wanted to visit, there comes a time when you can can accomplish all. The only wish is – good health.
