September 8th is International Literacy Day! Clanmother kindly reminded us about it last week and explained that this year’s theme is Literacy in a Digital World.
As an avid reader and learner, as well as someone who recognizes the importance of literacy in furthering the development of nations, this global initiative is one that I wholeheartedly support. Why not read a favorite poem or story to a friend today? Or share a beloved book?
Maybe you’ll even attend a used book sale like ksbeth recently did. Here’s a creative poem on her “I didn’t have my glasses on…” blog that seems perfect to share today. The link below takes you to her poem titled Bookstock.
Poetic goodness: bookstock.
Enjoy your word-happy day~ ♥ Christy
International Literacy day – the best day ever. We are celebrating for the whole month and culminating in a Children’s Book Fayre on 30 September.
Oh that sounds wonderful, Robbie! Reading delights :)
Hello Michael, lovely to see you here.
The day I could read, was the day I understood, even at that young of age, there was power in words. Now, I recognize that words allow us to connect to a past we will never know and send a message to a future that we will never see. We are only a fragment of humanity’s narrative Let us live our moments in celebration of all! Celebrating with you, my dear friend.
Let’s celebrate reading and learning every day, dear friend! <3
Best day ever! I might make this literacy weekend and do nothing but read. :)
Yay!!! I’m actually reading a book to someone. It’s a lot of fun, and a wonderful way to get closer to someone in a non-digital , old fashioned way. Love it!
That’s so great, Resa! I hope you share a blog post about it ~ Sounds like a wonderful bonding experience xx
xxxx
HUGE hugs coming to you… right now!
The joy of literacy means everything to me. Thanks for the reminder of the importance it holds in our world, Christy.
Oh Jet, yes! I picture you reading out in nature and feeling content. I hope that is an accurate image :)
I read a lot, sometimes outside, sometimes inside. Sometimes I get involved in the subject matter and forget to be grateful for this treasured skill, so I appreciated your post, Christy. Happy reading my friend!
Oh I love that this post spread gratitude… Thanks for telling me that, Jet! :)
☺
:D ;) :)
I can’t imagine being without my books to read!!
Me too, GP! I loved that recent post you did with all of your books :)
Those were just the military ones – now I have to hope my roof stays intact during Irma to keep them ALL dry!!
