Prepare for kids’ summer sickness with these tips

Summer sickness like swimmer's ear

The word mom is synonymous with the word superhero, and for good reason too. Moms are like Swiss Army knives, really. You have to be ready for everything; they have to constantly adapt to meet their kid’s different needs, and know exactly how to be there for them, no matter what the reason. That’s why it is so important that moms know the most common summer sickness so that you can watch out for them and deal without any panic.

Summer sickness and children: A reality

It’s summer. Moms want their kids to be outside because it is a great way to inspire their imaginations. You want the kids be outside playing and want them to be as happy and healthy as possible so that they can laugh and play their way through the warm months of July and August. So, to help you with this, here is a list of illnesses to look out for and how you can help your kiddos avoid them.

1. Annoying swimmer’s ear

This is when water gets trapped in the ear canal, making it a moist environment that bacteria just loves to grow inside. As you’ve no doubt guessed, this is most likely to happen when your child is playing in water. Most of the time it is just annoying but it can become painful for your little one.

If your boy or girl is suffering with it, then some over-the-counter antiseptic ear drops can do the trick. If you want to prevent it, however, then I recommend some ear plugs. Yup, it can be that simple.

2. Severe sunstroke

If you’ve ever had sunstroke, then you’ll know just how horrible it is to have it. What happens is your body temperature skyrockets as a result of being in the sun for too long. And that’s especially true if you’re a kid that doesn’t know how to stop running around outdoors.

Unfortunately, sunstroke can be really serious. I’m talking about a trip to the emergency room.

Of course, this summer sickness can be avoidable by keeping your kid shaded during the hottest parts of the day. Another thing you absolutely have to do is keep them hydrated with loads and loads of water.

3. Yukky head lice

Yup, head lice is common during the warm summer months. That’s because lice love warm and moist environments.

So much so that about 10 million kids get head lice every year in America alone. The reason why this number is so high?

It’s that these lice love to move about, especially through head-to-head contact, which you can find out all about on licketynit.com.

If you do find head lice in your child’s hair, then treat it right away. Then check everyone else in your family because these things get around. You’re going to have a pretty big washing pile to go through too.

More about summer sickness:

4. Itchy eczema

Even those children who don’t typically have eczema can start to suffer with it in the summertime. The reason for the spike in this kids summer sickness is the additional sun exposure and chlorine, both of which are described above. All of which combines to trigger dry and irritating skin.

Another huge factor in developing eczema is sweat. If your child does start to suffer from the skin condition, try wiping their skin down with a wet wipe or wet towel just to get rid of the sweat.

Cream may be your best bet, though. For a full list of things you can do, visit drwangskincare.com. But one of the easiest preventative steps you can take is to dress them in light and airy clothes when it is hot outside so that their skin can breathe well and they stay comfortable.
