4 Healthy Lifestyle Habits You Need to Know About

Bad habits? Replace them with healthy lifestyle habits

In our fast-paced and disposable culture, it feels like everyone is looking for a quick fix. Not only a speedy solution for our entertainment or food requirements, but also for our health. The average person today lives such a busy life that they don’t always maintain healthy lifestyle habits.

Is Being Healthy Even Possible?

I say yes.

It doesn’t have to take a huge effort to start building some positive healthy lifestyle habits today. What’s even better is if you can reduce your negative habits simultaneously, and replace them with good ones. But what do you start with? How do you even begin?

This article is here to help.

Walk to Work

Walking to work, or even walking part of the way there, depending on the distance, is a great way to stay healthy. Consider leaving home 15 minutes early, for example, to walk to the train station and take the train instead of the car a few days a week.

It can be easy to do in the summer when the weather’s warm. You’ll get outside in the fresh air, as well as exercising to help boost your mental health. Not to mention you’ll burn more calories than if you drove or took a taxi the entire way to work.

Another perk of healthy lifestyle habits like this one is that it lowers your car gas bill. Any activity that saves you unnecessary spending is a great one to know about. Do make sure though that you get your doctor’s approval before making any changes to your lifestyle that I mention anywhere in this post.

Healthy Lifestyle Habits: Get Outside More

This next point builds on the previous one. Getting outside more, such as walking to work, reduces your stress level, provides you with fresh air, and gives you the necessary vitamin D from natural sunlight.

Getting outside, especially in nature, will also reduce your stress levels. That’s one reason why having a garden is a great idea. Instead of spending a Sunday afternoon cooped up in the house watching Netflix, why not make the effort to go out in the backyard or the local park? Your mental health will thank you.

Dietary Supplements

Here are a few examples:

  • Fish oil for the joints
  • Multivitamins to make sure you get all of your health requirements
  • Zinc supplements to balance your husband’s testosterone

The key here is getting a happy, healthy dietary boost. Many dietary supplements are inexpensive and can cover a good diet solidly. When embracing healthy lifestyle habits like this one, there’s no worry about meeting health requirements.

Less Smoking and Drinking

Smoking and drinking are obviously bad for you, no matter what angle you look at it from. Drinking isn’t too bad if done in small amounts, and sticking under the daily unit allowance is fine for most people. However, smoking, no matter the number of cigarettes a day, will only reduce your lifespan and give you a lower quality of life.

One particular effect of smoking and drinking that many people consider is the detriment these activities cause to your teeth. Your teeth can become weakened, and in the case of smoking, can turn yellow or black as time goes on. You will end up taking more trips to the dentist than usual and could end up even needing surgery. If you do need dental care to try to rectify the results of drinking and smoking, find Emergency & Family Dentistry in your area.

Temper your drinking habits by having water throughout the night while consuming alcoholic and drinking once every other weekend instead of every weekend. After all, it’s the little things that count.

Building Healthy Lifestyle Habits

In conclusion, healthy lifestyle habits don’t have to be difficult to build up. In fact, once you get to grips with them, you’ll absolutely prefer them to your old ways. As Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

    1. It’s easier than we think, quite often.. although the first step can be the hardest…! Thanks for the shares and comments, Michelle. Love you!

    1. I think we often talk ourselves out of things, saying oh they’re too difficult.. all a matter of changing our perspective ;) Thanks Syl

    2. Yes, I have a friend doing that right now.. It’s hard to watch but we can’t make them change if they’re not ready.. Talk soon xx

    3. Change begins with our own willingness to change. All the opinions and advice doesn’t matter unless that individual takes a step forward. Okay 😊

    1. Yes, you always do. Have you noticed how many times since we met I refer to you as ‘sweet girl’? Because you are! <3

    1. You’re the first one to mention it in the comments section, Tina. I’ll be over to visit soon xx

  1. Do what works for you, so that it will become a habit, and something you look forward to. Walking works for me.
Thanks Christy for sharing. I really believe, that when we have our health, we have everything.

  2. Alessandro Tinchini

Simply put, just like the immortal truths in this life. I never smoked, just drank once in awhile and quit it altogether. I do a lot af miles a day. In fact, I’m a waiter! Thank you, Christy! Have a great weekend.

    1. You sound like you’re healthy and happy, which is great, Alessandro :) Thank you and happy weekend to you too!

  3. It comes down to loving yourself by making good choices for your health. Breakfast green smoothies, balanced diet with emphasis on veg/fruit and low carbs has worked for me. No white sugar/flour/rice, instead choosing whole grains. A treat once in a while is allowed, just not every day!

    1. It’s great to hear you have found what works well for you, Eliza! I have never been a big fan of smoothies but it could be I just haven’t found the right one for me ;) A treat now and then, YES!

    2. Green smoothies (kale/spinach) are improved by carrot, banana and coconut, I find. I also like the zing of lemon and ginger. It’s worth experimenting to find a blend you like – every cell in your body will love you for it!
