Writing of Importance – Christy Birmingham (@christybis)

Wow. Thank you to author Matthew Simon Alexander for this amazing review of my poetry collection Pathways to Illumination. Being able to bring awareness to issues such as depression and domestic violence, in this case through poetry, is so important to me. My next book Versions of the Self will publish next month. Again, I am grateful, Matthew, for your reflections on the book.

Oh Ray, that is so nice of you to stop by and smile with me! Matthew was so kind in his review and I am so grateful :)

  1. Matthew wrote a beautiful & articulate review of your book!
    I left him a comment:
“I think “Pathways” is a fabulous collection that truly moves in a positive direction. I enjoyed your review a lot!”

Oh sweetie thank you! I am honored by your comment here and by Matthew’s review of the book xx

  2. I loved what the reviewer (Matthew Simon Alexander) said: “Pathways to Illumination is an important contemporary work in terms of situating a discussion of domestic violence, and should not be limited to those women who are struggling with circumstances similar to that of the subject of the poems, but should be widely read by those men and women who have a predisposition to exert both mental and physical torture on ‘loved’ ones.”

So often these serious subjects are being preached to the converted. Hopefully, your words will reach those who most need to hear them.

I am happy to know that you are using your painful past experience in a positive and creative way. I admire you, Christy, for speaking on behalf of so many women caught in abusive relationships. Yours is an important and necessary voice.

I’ve tried many times to download your book and the problem always arises with PayPal. I have called PayPal and there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with my account. I really don’t know what the problem is.

Anyway, I think that this review is really awesome. Enjoy it! :)

Carol, thank you for the kind words about the review and for taking time here. It means a lot too what you said about my voice being a necessary one as it has been tempting to be quiet and go an easier route… Your words help give me strength and so I am grateful to you for that. I am very thankful to Matthew for the review! I will send you an email regarding the book, as well. I have a solution! :)
