The Ultimate Women’s Dance Routine to Inspire You, From So You Think You Can Dance

Women dance and inspire on TV

When I first watched this dance routine on the TV show So You Think You Can Dance, I actually forgot to breathe. It captivated me, and I forgot to breathe. The top seven women on the show were amazing as they danced to the Evanescence song “My Immortal” on the July 30th episode.

About this particular dance routine

The choreography and the way the dancers all carry it out is an amazing package. It is a gift, truly, because it spotlights the beauty of the female form and the amount of emotion these ladies express during the routine.

In just under two minutes they portrayed emotions that included love and angst. They brought beauty front and center as well as intrigue and true heart. It’s pure, raw, and wonderful.

The routine was choreographed by a woman too, making it the ultimate tribute to what women can accomplish in dance. Choreographer Mandy Moore, a regular part of the TV show, created the amazing dance routine. What I find fantastic is the way the female body can express in dance so many emotions without any of these seven talented ladies speaking a single word.

I hope you enjoy the power of these top seven women from So You Think You Can Dance in this video as much as I do. Thank you to this TV show for spotlighting all that women have to offer to the dance world (and so many other areas too, of course!). Bring on the female power!

  1. The song in the video above is one of my favorites, My Immortal. The woman singing it, Amy Lee, was 6 years old when her little 2 year sister died. It caused her to become very depressed. You can write about her. So to deal with this depression she got into music and start playing the piano. She became the state champion of piano. This is the saddest song that I ever heard and one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard. Amy Lee is a great inspiration for making something very beautiful out of her extreme sadness.

    1. Hi Chuck,
Thanks for the information about Amy Lee – I will absolutely feature her in a coming post! It really is a great song – so captivating. Take care.

    1. It’s a ‘different’ title for sure, Ines. It is a competition show so I suppose that’s where the title concept originated :)

  2. I have watched this how over here too… Quite good!
And that was certainly à powerful and expressive routine…

Happy friday and weekend ahead, Aquileana :D

    1. I’m glad you get the show too, Aqui! Yes, dance can move us emotionally and physically :) Thanks, Aqui! Happy weekend!

  3. Christy – my husband and I NEVER miss SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.. We have been watching it for seven years. I do hope they will renew the contract for this show. The show has made an important contribution to bringing new awareness of dance to millions of people. On night we were in emergency waiting our turn. In an adjacent waiting room a tv was on. Someone turned the channel to the show and EVERYBODY around me went into the next room – including a very elderly Portuguese man who couldn’t speak a word of Engllish. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for another year of this fab dance show. Virginia

    1. Hi Virginia, Yes this show is really helping more people appreciate music! Great story you told in your comment to express that. I love the show and hope it continues too!!
